Our Rose Blooming Good

Latin Rose (4 m Mastercraftsman - Down View, by Gone West) notched win number 86 this season for trainers Stephen Autridge & Jamie Richards, when resuming with a gutsy performance in the Fibre Fresh Rating 75 1150 metres on May 11 at Waipa.
Having trialled up nicely for apprentice Jasmine Fawcett at Te Teko, the filly purchased by David Ellis after being withdrawn from the 2013 New Zealand Bloodstock Premier Yearling Sale races in the ownership of her vendor Jamieson Park, along with Craig & Lisa Compain, Pat Dyer, Ronald Lau, June & Ruth Locker, Paul Martin, & Oliver Saxton, and made it three wins from eight starts.
As expected she was without the early pace to match speedsters in the field, but tracked up ominously from fifth at the 400m and kept responding under a bustling ride by Matt Cameron.
“She's a horse with speed, but you look at the field with a lot of apprentices on horses that just jump and run. So, I bided my time across the top without pushing the button too soon and she really lengthened out nicely in the end,†said Cameron.
It was well timed in the finish to prevail by one and a quarter lengths and punter confidence was rewarded as she closed off a $3.80 & $1.60 second favourite on the TAB tote.
Co-trainer Jamie Richards said: “The race worked out as we planned. Obviously they were going to go break-neck speeds up front and Matt rode her perfectly. Left-hand, right-hand, she balanced up well and hit the line strongly.
“She'd had a couple of runs in three or four days down there at Wairoa (in February), so we backed off her a little bit and Mastercraftsman's seem to handle some cut in the tracks.
A half-sister to Mexican Rose (Volksraad), the champion 2YO & 3YO in Singapore, having first impressed winning two of three in NZ, Latin Rose has quite a rich pedigree.
She has Mr. Prospector (Raise a Native) and Danzig (Northern Dancer) on each side of her pedigree and being a big mare she should continue to give her owners more thrills with further maturity.
Te Akau continues to lead the training premiership by six wins.
Latin Rose was strapped by Harry Brownie.
