Outfit Outstanding
18 December, 2021
Beautifully bred Outfit (3 f Tivaci - Costume, by Savabeel) received tick of approval from rider Opie Bosson after winning $15,000 Lodge Property Management Maiden 1600 metres on Saturday at Te Rapa, the scene of one of her mother's best victories.
Let find her feet ninth inner, Outfit was seven lengths astern before Bosson angled clear on straightening where she quickly ascended on her rivals and put the race to bed.
“I sat off behind the leaders, got shuffled a little bit, but she's got a good turn of foot and finished it off really well,†said Bosson, while also suggesting she is up to age group stakes' competition.
Outfit debuted with top run for third to subsequent winner and stakes' placed La Bella Beals (Star Turn) in a Maiden 3YO 1200 metres in October at Tauranga. She was without room when fifth in Maiden 1400 metres on 16 November at Rotorua and then ran the fastest last 600m (35.8) for a close third in a Maiden 1400 metres on 4 December at Matamata.
The form warranted dominant favouritism ($2.00) and Outfit duly obliged, easing at the line with one and a quarter lengths' advantage, and running 1600 metres in 1:36.7, the last 600m in 35.6, on footing soon to be upgraded to Dead5.
“We planned to be handier than where she ended up, but Opie was able to get off the rail at the right time and she quickened up well,†said trainer Jamie Richards.
“She'd been a bit unlucky not to have won already, so we are glad to get the win on the board and the future looks bright.
“She's a filly that will continue to improve with more time and out in trip a bit further as well.â€
Reticent to make immediate plans, Richards suggested Outfit could be considered for the Eight Carat Classic (Gr. 2, 1600m) or Royal Stakes (Gr. 2, 2000m) during Christmas/New Year at Ellerslie.
“We'll consider those options, or we could give her a bit more time as I think there's plenty in store for her.
“It's great to have a nice Tivaci filly out of a Group One winning Savabeel mare for Waikato Stud. She's been given a great start to life, has needed time to mature and the team has been patient with her.
“She's stabled at the Main Stable, run by Tracy Collis and Trevor Stewart, and she can tie up at times so it's great to have the swimming pool back in action as part of the training facilities at Matamata.â€
Bred and owned by Garry Chittick, from the first crop of Waikato Stud stallion Tivaci (High Chaparral), winner of the All Aged Stakes (Gr. 1, 1400m) at Randwick, out of dual Group 1 winning mare Costume (Savabeel), Outfit carries a cross of legendary stallion Sir Tristram (Sir Ivor) on the dam line of Tivaci and sire line of Costume.
Outfit is the third winner, along with Ensemble (Pins) and Lapel (Pins), from Costume who included the Herbie Dyke Stakes (Gr. 1, 2000m) victory at Te Rapa while grand-dam Disguised (O'Reilly) has been a tremendous producer with six individual winners of 17 races.
Outfit was strapped by Tracy Collis.
