Over $3 million in Stakes

We are very proud that Te Akau's stables - in Singapore and in New Zealand - have now won well over $3 million in prize money for our owners this season.

In Singapore where stakes are world class, the current tally is just over $2.3 million for the six months of the season thus far - and we are on track for a record season.  Mark Walker has led the Trainers' Premiership for almost the entire year - currently with 46 wins, he is eight clear of the next trainer. With 32 runner up and 65 third placings also to his credit, you can see how successful the season has been so far.

Win number 46 came on Friday night with the classy Kam's Comet recording his third win from only four starts.  This exciting 3YO son of Danroad scorched home on the polytrack in the hands of returning champion rider Manny Nunes for a comfortable half length win in the $60,000 Class 4 over 1100m.  Kam's Coment was purchased from New Zealand by Te Akau Racing and already has won an impressive $107,775 for his owner Mr MCE van der Kam.

The winning continued just 12 hours later and this time in New Zealand when the beautifully bred Opulent got the win she so richly deserved.  A daughter of Keeper from Silk Slipper, bought by David from the Karaka Premier Sale, this filly has had her name in stipes' reports for bad luck more than any other currently in the stable.

Her last start at Ruakaka should have been a victory but after being severely hampered at the start, clipping heels, her rider losing an iron and briefly the rein and being checked back - her powerful finish for third made her the horse to beat on Saturday - and so it proved.

Opulent's maiden 1600m win in the hands of Matt Cameron took Te Akau Racing's New Zealand stakes' earnings for the season to $1,005,955 - with 42 wins, 46 second and 34 third placings as well as 6 Group and Listed titles.

So a great result with both Te Akau stables earning in excess of $1 million - in fact $3.35 million combined.

There are plenty of other team players to feel proud of too - Te Akau NZ stable rider Matt Cameron looks on target to defend his Jockeys' Premiership title - Matt currently sits on 140 wins (with 131 second and 93 third placings), $2.6 million in prize money won and 9 Group and Listed races - his lead of 14 over Danielle Johnson looks unassailable at this stage - go Matt!

In Singapore as we know, Mark leads the Trainers' Premiership and our stable apprentice Shafiq Rizuan is also trail-blazing his way through the season!   A former champion apprentice, he looks on song to seize that title back this year - already he has recorded 24 wins, a massive 10 wins ahead of Harry Kasim who lies in second position.
