Paeroa Trials' Report

Enjoy this update of some of the Te Akau triallists at Paeroa today.

Te Akau trialled horses on Tuesday April 23 at Paeroa.

The footing was rated Dead6, with the rail out 5 metres. Heavy rain [9mls] in twenty minutes following Heat 10 saw the track downgrade considerably to a rating of Heavy10 after Heat 13.

Heat 1 Jumpers Flat 2100 metres (3 lengths, ¾ lengths 2:17.86)

Goosebumps (8 g Istidaad - Raewyn's Polly) - Daniel Miller; settled sixth of eight, became outpaced when the field quickened at the 600 metres and stayed on through the line in true jumpers fashion.

Heat 4 2YO 700 metres (1 length, 3 lengths 41.88)

2 f Darci Brahma - Eloa - Matt Cameron; showed good pace to co-lead on the rail, cornered nicely, and she displayed a lovely action when keeping up a strong gallop under hands and heels to finish second.

Heat 5 2YO 700 metres (head, 4 lengths 42.69)

Currency (2 g Alamosa - Glittering Girl) - Matt Cameron; was handy from the outset, worked through on the rail to lead approaching the home turn and kept giving in the worst of the going against the rail.

Heat 6 2YO 700 metres (head, 5 lengths no time)

Enhance (2 f Saperavi - Pinstinct) - Matt Cameron; travelled fourth on the outer, tracked up nicely rounding the home turn, quickened in centre track to challenge the leader at the 200 metres and ran powerfully through the line for a close second.

Heat 11 Maiden 700 metres (neck, ½ a length 42.13)

Fast Fiction (3 g Fastnet Rock - Paperback) - Matt Cameron; was first out of the gates to lead, drawn centre track in line of four on straightening to find an advantage at the 200 metres and kept up a strong gallop to win well.

Heat 14 2YO 1000 metres (1 ½ lengths, 2 lengths 1:01.15)

2 f More than Ready - Insouciant - Shane Dye; travelled up held in sixth, improved wide tracking from the 600 metres behind runners and ran home nicely in a photo for third - finishing fifth.

Heat 15 2YO 1000 metres (1 ¾ lengths, 2 ½ lengths 1:01.13)

Flirty Gertey (2 f Thorn Park - Granma Gertey) - Matt Cameron; settled back in the field, improved to fifth at the 600 metres, was first to the outside of track on straightening and ran home solidly for second.

Heat 16 2YO 1000 metres (1 length, 1 ½ lengths 1:01.81)

Spellbinder (2 f O'Reilly - Scenic Sprint) - Matt Cameron; jumped away well, settling nicely in fifth, made her run on the inside of the pack turning for home, quickening nicely and although showing some greenness she proved too good in winning.

Heat 18 2YO 1000 metres (2 lengths, 6 lengths 1:01.03)

2 f Guillotine - Greta Hall - Matt Cameron; relaxed in fourth, improved through to lead at the 300 metres and although showing signs of greenness in the ground she proved too classy in winning.

Heat 19 Open 1000 metres (½ a length, 2 lengths 1:01.78)

Polarity (5 g No Excuse Needed - Affirmed Lane) - Daniel Miller; positioned midfield, five lengths from lead at the 600 metres, held up looking for room and ran on solidly in tight quarters, doing his best work on the line.

Heat 20 Open 1000 metres (1 length, 3 lengths 1:01.76)

Adalia (4 m Lucky Unicorn - Ajfan) - Shane Dye; settled in midfield to be standing the leader ten lengths at the 600 metres and over a distance too short she held her position comfortably in the testing ground.

Heat 27 Open 1150 metres (2 ½ lengths, 1 length 1:12.17)

Thrive (5 m Colombia - Trove) - Matt Cameron; progressed ominously from midfield to make the lead widest on straightening and quickened in a well-balanced manner. She relished the conditions to win easily.

Goyescas (4 m Encosta De Lago - Larrocha) - Shane Dye; settled last after being left alone in the early stages, but picked up nicely once balanced in the straight and went through the line under a hold in midfield.

Prospero (5 g High Chaparral - Alfred's Jewel) - Rory Hutchings; was ridden up back in the field, as a staying type over a distance short of his best, and he made good ground in the straight to finish in midfield.

Gijima (5 g Red Ransom - Spin ‘N Grin) - Daniel Miller; jumped well to share the early pace before steadying to fourth and although finding the ground too testing he fought on solidly.

Heat 29 Maiden 1150 metres (head, 2 ½ lengths 1:12.47)

3 f High Chaparral - Landara - Shane Dye; settled rearward, pushed along from the 800 metres, clear last at the 600 metres, but made good ground in the typical staying fashion.
