Perfect Scenario - Back to Back Wins

After delivering fresh-up with a strong gallop over 1200 metres at Tauranga, Perfect Scenario  (3 g Iffraaj - Rosetti Bay, by Pins) upped the ante with a smart victory in the $10,000 Donaghy's Uddercontrol Rating 65 1200 metres on 28 October at Te Aroha.

Having prepared three-year-old colt Brando (Savabeel) to win earlier on the programme, trainer Jamie Richards presented Perfect Scenario in terrific order and the well-bred galloper won like a pretty good horse.

Ideally drawn in barrier two, rider Michael McNab secured a lovely trip in midfield, eased clear inside the 600m and, given time to balance in the straight, Perfect Scenario quickened when asked before drawing clear late in the piece.

“He's going great,” McNab said. “He jumped, put himself there and found a good kick. If Jamie trains them, he's pretty much done the whole job for you and I just have to steer them round.”

On ideal Dead4 footing, Perfect Scenario ran the 1200 metres in 1:10.4, last 600m in 34.3, and justified his $2.90 & $1.60 favouritism in the manner of victory.

“Michael (McNab) is punching home a few winners lately and that was a confident ride,” Richards said. “Being positive from a handy barrier always makes it a bit easier, too.

“The horse has won two from four, but still very new, chopping and changing his lead legs, but the last 50 yards he was really good. So, I think he's a horse with a fair bit of improvement still to come.

“The team at the Main Stable have done a good job with him. He enjoys getting out in the paddock and having a play around, and he's certainly racing well.

“We may give him a slight let up now, but there is no reason why he won't continue improving. There are some nice races around Christmas time for him.

“We've got wonderful owners in him including Bill Taylor who shared in both winners there today - Bill also had a share in Gingernuts.”

By high-quality stallion Iffraaj (Zafonic), with 20 Group 1 winners and 124 stakes' winners worldwide, his dam Rosetti Bay (Pins) was an impressive Group 3 winner and multiple group-placed mare that won eight races and already left very good stakes winner Queens Rose (O'Reilly) who also won eight. He was purchased by David Ellis CNZM for $165,000 at the 2019 Karaka Book 1 Sale, from the draft of Woburn Farm, for owners in the Te Akau Perfection Syndicate (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM).

Interestingly, Rosetti Bay set her career alight with a debut win on the same course at Te Aroha. Ridden by Mark Sweeney, she indicated on that occasion that a promising future lay ahead and there are quite a few similarities in both conformation and action that she has passed on to her son.

“It was a lovely ride by Michael (McNab) and the horse won nicely, in good times,” Ellis said. “He's out of a really good Pins mare, Rosetti Bay. Michael has ridden a lot of winners for us in the tangerine and he's a talented rider.

“All the horses are looking really good and presenting beautifully. In the last month we've had horses in training in Sydney, Melbourne, Riccarton and Matamata. Jamie has done an incredible job to have everything going so well. It's not easy and the team have all had to have less time off and it's a credit to them how it's all going.”

Perfect Scenario was strapped by Tanweer Alam.
