Perfect Scenario Perfect Result

A brilliant ride by Te Akau apprentice Niranjan Parmar aboard Perfect Scenario(4 g Iffraaj - Rosetti Bay, by Pins) enabled victory in the $30,000 Rating 74 1550 metres on 11 February at Awapuni.

A fortnight earlier at Trentham, on Wellington Cup Day, Parmar rose from apprentice obscurity with two tremendous winning rides, and the tall, willowy, lad showed his confidence is blooming.

Perfect Scenario was notable in two starts at Awapuni, most recently in an Open 1550 metres on Boxing Day, before finishing a good third to subsequent winning stable-mate Campionessa (Contributer) in a Rating 74 1600 metres on 19 January at Te Rapa.

Positive from gates to lead, Parmar steadied Perfect Scenario to travel well while some of those stacked behind were looking for rein. In contrast, saving ground and quickening inside 600m, he had rivals off the bridle. Despite weight relief to still carry a hefty 59kg, Perfect Scenario shot away to score by easily by three and a half lengths.

Sponsored by Pro Slab and Manawatu Shearing, on footing that remained Dead5 under threatening skies, Perfect Scenario paid handsomely: $9.10 & $2.20 on NZ TAB tote.

“It was a great ride and he gave him every possible chance,” said trainer Jamie Richards. “I was surprised how easily he was able to get across and lead, but we had spoken this morning about being positive.

“Racing around the inside bend there can be difficult to make ground, but he got there easily, slowed through middle stages and sprinted hard off the corner. I was very happy with how he was able to do that. Parmar is riding well and is great value at three-kilos.

“It's hard to believe Perfect Scenario hasn't won all season and he comes out and wins impressively like that, but hopefully he will take confidence from that and foot it in Open company. I'm pleased for the owners, who have been really patient with him.”

Perfect Scenario had won on slow footing, was placed in a Waikato Guineas (Gr. 2, 2100m), and finished fifth in the Karaka Million 3YO Classic (Restricted Listed, 1600m).

By high-quality stallion Iffraaj (Zafonic), dam Rosetti Bay (Pins) was an impressive Group 3 winner and multiple Group placed mare that won eight races and has already left very good stakes 'winner Queens Rose (O'Reilly) who also won eight. He was purchased by David Ellis CNZM for $165,000 at 2019 Karaka Book 1 Sale, from draft of Woburn Farm, for owners in Te Akau Perfection Syndicate (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM).

She was a really good race mare Rosetti Bay, with class and quality and similarly she too displayed a great turn of foot on ground with sting just out of it. Perfect Scenario has been sparingly raced and gives every indication of achieving greater feats.

“He had a terrific pedigree and was a good strong colt when we bought him as a yearling at Karaka,” Ellis said.

“He's always been a good horse and took nice form into the Derby as a three-year-old where things didn't go his way.

“Jamie (Richards) has continued to place him really well and I'm thrilled for the owners with the way he won today. It was pretty convincing and looks good for his future.

“Our two apprentices, Parmar and Joe (Kamaruddin) are riding so well and I couldn't be more pleased for them. It's always a great benefit to get weight relief, providing the apprentices can do the job, and these two are really seizing their opportunities.”

Perfect Scenario was strapped by Sam Bergerson.
