Pink Perfection

Representing a formidable ownership group, The Perfect Pink  (3 f Savabeel - The Solitaire, by O'Reilly) was victorious in the $12,000 NZB Pearl Series Maiden Fillies & Mares 1300 metres on 22 September at Cambridge (poly-track).

A filly that looked good finishing third when trialling on the track in August, The Perfect Pink was ridden patiently when making ground for fourth, resuming in the Maiden 3YO 1200 metres on 4 September at Te Rapa, and made the improvement necessary.

Ridden by Michael McNab, as she was at Te Rapa, The Perfect Pink secured a nice trip in fourth before angling out to challenge on straightening and it was the last bit, as she stretched clear, that was most eye-catching.

It was the mark of a filly with plenty of upside, in addition to her royal bloodlines, and could see her haughtily progress toward the NZ 1000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m), a prestigious race for which she is nominated, on 13 November at Riccarton.

Shortened into favouritism, The Perfect Pink paid $3.50 & $1.50 on both the TAB fixed odds and tote.

“We've always had a bit of time for her and it was a nice effort,” said trainer Jamie Richards. “She's been immature and needed a patient approach, but she's getting there now.

“She ran well fresh-up at Te Rapa, when getting back and making good ground, and today was able to utilize a better barrier (3), camp in behind them, and with the addition of blinkers she really smartened up. I thought she was quite impressive the last bit and got away to win well.

“It looks as though she's got better things in store, and we'll certainly give her the opportunity of contesting some of the better fillies' races.

“Where her next start is, I'm not entirely sure, but we'll make a plan.

“I'd like to thank Tony Rider, who has been a really good supporter of the stable, with fillies like Miss Aotearoa, and it's a real pleasure to have the Dennis Brothers involved in a horse in the stable, as well. I grew up in the South Island, watching their breed perform so well and it's an honour to train a winner for them now.”

On the overview of stable performances, Richards said: “We've been having a frustrating run of placed efforts at the moment, but good to see this filly win, on the back of another nice filly, Fashion Shoot, winning on Saturday at Riccarton.

“The team is certainly putting in the hard yards and, as the weather and tracks improve, and we get the plough back in use for training at Matamata, we will really see the team starting to fire.”

From the illustrious Dennis brothers' family, The Perfect Pink was bred by Tony, Kevin, Martin, & Ray Dennis, and Tony Rider (Milan Park), who own her along with Grant Bennett, Steven Christopher, and Craig Lawrence.

By six-time Champion Sire Savabeel, The Perfect Pink is from impressive stakes winner The Solitaire (O'Reilly) (10 wins), a three-quarter sister to 1000 Guineas winner and Champion Three-Year-Old The Jewel (O'Reilly).

The second dam is The Dazzler (Centaine), and third dam, 2003 NZ Broodmare of the Year, The Grin (Grosvenor).

The Perfect Pink was strapped by Katija Cherie.
