Rapid Reflections with Mark Walker

TDN New Zealand and Australia reports:

TDN AusNZ: Favourite racing moment of 2022?

Mark Walker: Prise De Fer winning the G1 Captain Cook Stakes.

TDN AusNZ: And favourite non-racing moment?

MW: Being able to spend this Christmas with all of my family for the first time in over three years due to COVID.

TDN AusNZ: What are you most looking forward to in the new year?

MW: Always look forward to attending the Karaka Million evening.

TDN AusNZ: Who is your favourite stallion, and why?

MW: Danehill would have to be my all-time favourite stallion - He is the sire of Darci Brahma, who was the first stallion prospect that Te Akau created.

TDN AusNZ: Which stallion do you believe is the best physical type?

MW: Frankel.

TDN AusNZ: Who is the most underrated stallion in Australasia?

MW: Darci Brahma.

TDN AusNZ: Who do you think will take out 2023 first-season sire honours?

MW: Trapeze Artist in Australia and Embellish in New Zealand.

TDN AusNZ: What was your best purchase in 2022?

MW: Poppy - my 3-year-old daughter's first pony. She is a gem!

TDN AusNZ: Favourite binge-worthy television show?

MW: Who has time to watch television, other than Trackside?

TDN AusNZ: What's the best book you read in 2022?

MW: Not a book, but Raceform - New Zealand's racing publication. It's great.

TDN AusNZ: Name an emerging human talent in the industry and say why.

MW: Sam Bergerson - our assistant trainer. He is well on his way to being a very successful trainer. His attention to detail and dedication to the industry cannot be compared.

TDN AusNZ: What has been your favourite post-COVID trip this year?

MW: Returning home to New Zealand and being able to have my children altogether in June, where we went down as a family to Queenstown for a skiing trip.
