Riccarton Park Trackwork Update

Riccarton Park trackwork highlights - Tuesday 2 October  -

The Riccarton Park landscape was cloaked in thick fog this morning with only the very late comers timed after the shroud lifted at 8.40 am. Both the big trial grass and the plough were available for fast work with Saturday entered two-year-olds allowed to use the 1200 metre chute and cross to the course proper for a first time look at the track they will run on when making their debut. The going on the grass was a Good3 and other than the damp fog conditions were dry.

Carson's River (Gestern) showed his fitness when he galloped solo from the 1000m in 58.5 and was strong to the line with the final 600m reeled off in just 33.9.

The Pitman stablemate Why Me (Gestain) also came out late and was timed from the 800m in 46.9 with the final 600m in 34.7. It was very good work and he should soon be seen at his best on a dry track. Mr Typhon (Shaikh) was timed from the 400m only in 23.6.

Unnamed Pitman three-year-old geldings by Showcasing (Morgenwood) and by Coats Choice (Shaikh) also impressed went they were paired from the 1000m in 1.05.4, the last 600m in 35.00. Both horses were recent winners at the Ashburton trials.

Domesday four-year-old mare Savelle (Shaikh) which has recorded one second from five northern starts, went from the 1000m in 59.8 with the last 600m in 34.9. The Swiss Maestro (Morgenrood) is another northern galloper to be sent south in search of his first win. The four-year-old was timed from the 1000m in 1.08.9 with the last 600m in 38.3.

The Te Akau Racing visitors Richard of Yorke (Laking - main picture) and Bak Da Master (Kararuddin) galloped together on the plough just after the fog lifted and were timed from 1000m in 1.03.7.

From the chute and onto the course proper the Te Akau two-year-olds Puysegur (Laking) and Challa (Kararuddin) were not extended in recording 40.5 for 600m. Both are on track to make their debuts at Riccarton Park on Saturday over 800m.

Galloping late together on the plough Ayhum (Saejorhor) and Sulcifera (Murphy) were timed from the 1000m 1.04.8, the last 600m in 36.5.

Wide Awake, Devil May Care, Remington, Publicist, Our Flying Ace and In A Twinkling were all galloped earlier on the plough over 1000m in pairs but not timed due to the fog. Te Akau Racing set to have a big day on Saturday with 10 stable representatives scheduled to run.

Who Dares Wins, Son of Maher, Odisha, Zakynthos, Yamada Nadeshiko, Hot Fuss, Jin Lu, Quantrelle, Faux Pas, Flash Gordon, Lunar Lady and Devil's Staircase are star black book Riccarton Park trackworkers over the past three weeks which are all entered for Riccarton Park on Saturday.
