Riveting Remington Wins
Compiling an enviable record, Remington (4 g Darci Brahma - Kudamm, by Cape Cross) was outstanding in his performance to win the $25,000 Canterbury Landscape Supplies Rating 72 1200 metres on Saturday at Riccarton.

Owned by the Te Akau Remington Steele Syndicate, Remington has now won three times and finished runner-up four times from seven starts.

Ridden by Shafiq Rusof, fresh off a win by Wide Awake (Savabeel) and second aboard Challa (Dissident) in the first two races, Remington settled sixth on the inner from barrier one. He stood the leader four lengths when angling clear at the 200m and sprouted wings to round up stakes winner Respin (Power) near the line and win going away.

On Dead4 footing, he ran the 1200 metres in 1:09.7 and $2.10 & $1.30 on the tote.

“We elected to keep him fresh and it was a good tough win, and he might have a few more options stepping up to 1400 metres during the carnival in November,” said trainer Jamie Richards.

“He drew well, it was a lovely ride by Shafiq and he got there in the nick of time with big finish. It was another good effort by the team down there and he'd freshened up nicely since his second there three weeks ago. He's certainly racing in very good form.”

From the impressive winner and stakes' placed mare Kudamm (Cape Cross), who notched three of her four wins over 1600 metres, Remington was purchased a yearling by David Ellis for $75,000, from the draft of Pencarrow Stud, at the 2016 New Zealand Bloodstock Select Sale, and owned by the Te Akau Remington Steele Syndicate.

“The Darci Brahma's I've bought that Sir Peter (Vela) has bred are really in a purple patch of form, with this bloke and Our Flying Ace winning four of the last six races between them, and two seconds.

“Remington is out of a really good mare, Kudamm. We trained Kudamm and thought she was our Oaks' filly in her three-year-old season, but she had soundness problems and was retired. I always kept in the back of my mind that she could leave a really good horse.

“I bought Darci Brahma from Pencarrow and Mark (Walker) trained him to win five Group Ones, so it's great to have that knowledge of the family and obviously I love the Darci Brahma's.”

Remington was strapped by Joe Stan.
