El Roca gelding, Rocky capped off recent solid form with a determined win in the Class 4 1600m on the polytrack with apprentice Nor Zyrul in the saddle.
Despite being dealt an awkward draw (7) which means a short run into the first bend, the 4YO jumped well and although having to position three wide for the early part of proceedings, the apprentice found the perfect spot one out in fifth.
As they turned for home, Rocky had been held up with perfect timing, and unleashed a powerful run mid track to take the lead at the 250m mark. Winning by just under a length, he never looked in doubt in the final stages to the delight of his syndicate manager John Galvin who was on course with wife Jessica and a small team of his owners.
Te Akau Singapore trainer, Donna Logan was delighted:
“That was a lovely win, Rocky raced beautifully and he was ridden to perfection by Zyrul – it was just great to watch."
