Te Akau Rotorua Trials' Report

Te Akau trialled horses on Tuesday March 8 at Rotorua

The footing was rated Good3, rail out 8 metres.

Heat 7 2YO 800 metres (neck, 2 lengths 46.4)

2 c Savabeel - Pins on Ice - Cameron Lammas; fifth and five lengths from the lead at the 600m, he worked up the rail in the straight, closing off well in tight quarters for fifth and galloped out solidly through the line.

Heat 8 2YO 800 metres (2 ½ lengths, 1 ½ lengths 47.6)

2 c Showcasing - Wind of Savannah - Alysha Collett; worked into a good position, fourth on the outer, and although hard to make ground with the rail out he finished off solidly in a photo for fourth.

Heat 9 2YO 800 metres (2 ¼ lengths, neck 46.5)

2 f Alamosa - Tad Infinitum - Jasmine Fawcett - settled last of six, improved widest at the 400m and sustained a strong finish into third.

Lady Amadeus (2 f Medaglia D'oro - Rialto Bridge) - Cameron Lammas; was fourth in the early stages but lost her place nearing the home turn over the sprint trip.

Heat 10 2YO 800 metres (2 lengths, head 46.6)

Lady Masako (2 f Iffraaj - Lady Sakura) - Cameron Lammas; received a perfect run in the trail, was held in a pocket the length of the straight but maintained a strong gallop in a photo for second.

Heat 11 2YO 800 metres (½ a head, nose 48.0)

2 f Alamosa - Cavendish Belle - Muhammad Hanafi; received an economical passage fourth on the inner, gained a rails run in the straight and ran home solidly, under hands and heels, in a tight photo to finish third.

Savvy Lady (2 f Savabeel - Modern Lady) - Jasmine Fawcett; missed the start to tail off last, but made up an enormous amount of ground near the rail in the straight to finish on the heels of the leaders.

Heat 12 2YO 800 metres (½ neck, dead-heat 47.5)

2 g Darci Brahma - Distinctive Lass - Alysha Collett; steadied into fourth with cover, presented on straightening and worked home widest in a line of five across the track to dead-heat for second.

Heat 18 Maiden 1000 metres (½ a length, head 1:00.8)

Our Abbadean (3 f Lookin at Lucky - Highland Lights) - Alysha Collett; camped off the fence behind leaders in fourth and remained held in tight quarters to finish close up in fifth.

Heat 19 Maiden 1000 metres (neck, ½ a head 1:01.5)

Splurge (3 c Savabeel - Splashing Out) - Cameron Lammas; away smartly from barrier one to lead then trail, he worked across heels into the clear at the 150m and pleased the rider with his dash for a close third.

Heat 21 Maiden 1000 metres (6 lengths, 2 ½ lengths 1:00.3)

3 g Per Incanto - Flying Florence - Cameron Lammas; travelled handy to the pace and although no horses we able to match the winner he ran home solidly for third.

Heat 22 Maiden 1000 metres (½ a length, 4 lengths 59.2)

Esprit De Corps (3 g Bel Esprit - Vercors) - Muhammad Hanafi; awkwardly away before circling up into third at the 800m and fought on solidly for fourth.

Heat 23 Maiden 1000 metres (neck, neck 1:00.5)

Grazia (3 f Savabeel - Trocair) - Alysha Collett; settled in the last pairing, three back on the outer, circled widest into the straight and sustained a strong run to finish close up in fifth.

Heat 24 Maiden 1230 metres (long head, 1 ½ lengths 1:16.1)

Forty Winks (3 f Rip Van Winkle - Far South) - Cameron Lammas; was put in the trial to lead from barrier one, but unable to sustain her run in the straight.
