Season Review: Dynastic Delivered

With a record-breaking season set to end on 31 July, it's timely to reflect on the Te Akau horses that delivered 34 Group/Listed race victories this season - a season of 196 winners (to date) in New Zealand and Australia ... our second black type winner of the season was former Karaka 2YO Million winner Dynastic ...

Karaka Million 2YO (Restricted Listed, 1200m) winner Dynastic (3 c Almanzor - Meir, by Volksraad) showed terrific attributes winning fresh-up in the $80,000 El Roca - Sir Colin Meads Trophy (Listed, 1200m) on 10 September at Hastings.

Purchased by David Ellis CNZM at the 2021 Karaka Book 1 Sale, from the draft of Windsor Park Stud, owned by Te Akau 2021 Stallion Syndicate (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM), Group One placed Dynastic became the sixth consecutive Karaka Million winner for the stable - which later increased to seven when Tokyo Tycoon (Satono Aladdin) won this year.

Beautifully prepared by trainer Mark Walker, having trialled twice in preparation, the resumption of such a high-quality colt could not have been better, especially with questions raised about handling heavy footing.

“As soon as I gave him a couple with the stick, he put his ears back and had a crack, which is ideal,” said stable rider Opie Bosson.

“He's got such a beautiful movement about him and the further the better.”

The assessment by Bosson was correct, as Dynastic went on to finish third in the Sarten Memorial Stakes (Gr. 2, 1400m), and although required to be gelded, he finished third in the Auckland Guineas (Gr. 2, 1600m), and won over 2000 metres at Matamata, one of six wins on the day for trainer Mark Walker, before finishing seventh in the NZ Derby (Gr. 1, 2400m).

Dynastic now has career winnings of $740,625.

From a Sir Tristram/Volksraad dam line of stakes producing mares, Dynastic is from the first crop of Cambridge Stud stallion Almanzor (Wotton Bassett): European Champion Three-Year-Old, while claiming the same titles in Ireland and France.

Almanzor is one of the best credentialed stallions (Almanzor) to shuttle in the last decade to New Zealand.
