Sebrose Super Again
6 April, 2015
The winning rolls on - Sebrose has taken to life in Singapore like the proverbial duck to water.
On Sunday afternoon at Kranji, the 4YO raced gallantly to record his third career win - and with three second placings and one third placing also to his credit - his prize money is closing in on the $150,000 mark - and that in only eight starts!
The classy son of Sebring out of the Group 1 NZ Oaks' winning mare Bramble Rose was purchased by David Ellis for $230,000 at the Magic Millions Gold Coast June Sale - a sale that has seen Te Akau bring home some very good horses! At that time in 2012, he was the top price lot on the first day of the sale and Magic Millions commented:
A lovely colt by Sebring topped today's first session of the Magic Millions National Yearling Sale at the Gold Coast.
Leading New Zealand based bloodstock agent David Ellis, flanked by members of his international Te Akau racing operation, snared the prized lot with a $230,000 bid.
The chestnut colt is from the Group One winning mare Bramble Rose and is a half brother to the Sydney stakes winner Maules Creek.
Ellis will be hoping the colt continues his great buying record from the National Yearling Sale - having netted Group One winners Princess Coup and Tell a Tale from previous editions of the auction (and of course Integrate - Ed).
The colt is the fourth foal of the Shinko King mare Bramble Rose - winner of four races including the Group One New Zealand Oaks. He was offered at the auction by Tyreel Stud - the vendors of star international sprinter Rocket Man at the 2007 National Yearling Sale.
Unplaced in his three trials in New Zealand, Sebrose's owners followed by astute advice of David Ellis to send the gelding unraced to Te Akau's Singapore stable. Since his arrival, he has gone from strength to strength under Mark's guidance and has never looked back. In fact he could well be looking ahead at a tilt at the Group 1 Singapore Derby in July.
It was another piece of 'genius' from gun rider Manuel Nunes to get Sebrose home - a seemingly lost cause as they turned for home, the horse was near the rear of the field in about 10th position and had all sorts of traffic issues ahead of him. The total professional that Nunes is saw a no-panic ride, off heels, angled out and woosh - Sebrose breezed on by to score a comfortable one length win in the S$60,000 Open Benchmark 67 1400m.

Sebrose's (seen above winning in February) victory brought up Mark Walker's 30th win for the season and he remains 10 wins clear on the Trainers' Premiership table. Our Singapore team is racing great-guns - on Sunday Double Jeopardy and Ready Fortune were second and third in their race, Iking was very unlucky not to win when finishing second, and Dreamcatcher was also runner up in his assignment. The David Ellis purchased Golden Sand Steed also put in a top performance to finish third in the Group 3 Kranji Sprint over 1200m.
