It's sale that has ben a successful source of yearlings for David Ellis and the Te Akau team.

The Magic Millions National Yearling Sale kicks off this Tuesday 4 June through to Thursday 6 June on Quensland's Gold Coast and Te Akau is ready for action.

The morning after his Mum's funeral, David Ellis flew out for Brisbane accompanied by Te Akau Stud farm manager Sam Boyd.  Te Akau Singapore trainer Mark Walker, who had also been in Auckland for the funeral, headed across later on Saturday after having visited family members in the Waikato early Saturday morning.  Jason Bridgman travelled across last night after the Ellerslie races and our veterinary surgeon Dr Doug Black (who will inspect our short listed yearlings) landed just after midnight.

Don't worry some of us have stayed behind to keep the home fires burning!

There are 662 lots catalogued for the yearling sale and David has spent a lot of time working through that catalogue identifying the yearlings that we will attempt to purchase.

This sale, as we said, has been a happy hunting ground for Te Akau with Group 1 performers Integrate and Tell A Tale being purchased from this sale.  As was Princess Coup.  This 4 time Group 1 winning daughter of Encosta de Lago was of course a New Zealand Bloodstock Filly of the Year, Champion 3YO of the Year, Champion Middle Distance Horse and Champion Stayer. She earned around $4 million in stakes and went through the Gold Coast Broodmare Sale at the end of her racing career and fetched a then-sale record of $3 million.

Last year we bought another Encosta filly now called Costa Viva and she has shown us a good deal of promise to date.

Today and tomorrow David and the team are spending hours walking the sales venue, inspecting all the yearlings that they have identified and Doug will then vet check them and their xrays for us.

If you want to be involved in a yearling from this sale please drop Karyn an email on [email protected] - no obligation at all but it means that we will contact you as soon as our purchases have been made.  Every year, shares in our Gold Coast horses are gone within 48 hours - make sure you contact Karyn or keep a really close eye on our Yearlings and Shares page.

It is a long weekend here in New Zealand and we hope you are enjoying the break that celebrates the (unofficial) birthday of Queen Elizabeth II.
