She Shows Plenty
22 May, 2014
Out of a strong form race at Avondale, and fitter for the first up run, Show No Emotion (4 m Pins - Lynisky, by Stravinsky) recorded her second win from only six starts on May 22 at Hastings, winning the Agronica Handicap Benchmark 65 1600 metres by one and three-quarter lengths.
Finishing third to Stella's Honour (O'Reilly) fresh up looked the strongest form on paper in the race and so it proved for the sizable mare bred and owned by Gavin & Shane Wealleans.
Jockey Matt Cameron had Show No Emotion handily placed on the rails before finding clear galloping room entering the home straight and in front at the 150 metres she worked away for a dominant victory.
“She's a big horse that can get out of anywhere and it was good to get her on better footing,†said Cameron. “She is still quite green, but putting it together nicely.
Having ridden the stable-mate Merrily (O'Reilly) to victory earlier in the day, Cameron took his season tally to 119 in the Jockey Premiership and nine ahead of his closest rival.
Trainer Jason Bridgman said: “She got a lovely run from the draw (barrier two) and we all know that it makes a huge difference in being able to win races and although still having a bit to learn, being a big, quite raw mare, it was great to get a win for the Wealleans boys.
They are long time clients of the stable and they're actually out at the farm today having a big lunch, so they'll be able to have another drink.
“We could not be happier,†said Gavin Wealleans, while sitting enjoying the company of David (Ellis) and Karyn (Fenton-Ellis) at Te Akau Stud with son Shane. “Matt (Cameron) did a great job, we're thrilled and just remember ‘we go that little bit further'.
David Ellis said: “It's been a great week for the Wealleans boys. They had a win with Wolfwhistle (O'Reilly) on Saturday at Te Rapa. She (Show No Emotion) is a massive mare at 615kgs and they backed our advice to give her plenty of time, so all credit to them.
“The Wealleans have always backed Te Akau and now they are getting the results,†said Ellis. “They bred the mare and at the sales this year I bought the Savabeel filly out of Lynisky that we are currently breaking in at the stud and our breaker James Jackson has given her a terrific rap. She is currently being syndicated by Fortuna. Gavin and Shane deserved the win after losing the mare last season when foaling down a Mastercraftsman filly.
“The Mastercraftsman has grown into a lovely filly and this could well be a family and pedigree that is on the way up,†said Ellis.
