She Shows Plenty
15 October, 2014
Asked if he showed any emotion following the win by Show No Emotion (5 m Pins - Lynisky, by Stravinsky) on October 15 at Avondale, co-owner Gavin Wealleans replied: “I was above the shoulderâ€.
“That wasn't a bad win,†said Wealleans, who bred and owns the mare with son Shane, after Show No Emotion had resumed off 130-days with a big finish to win the Carlaw Rating 75 1400 metres in a quick time of 1:21.6 - last 600m in 35.
“She was a bit green but beat a good field with stakes' performers in there and I'm off in the morning to watch the rugby (All Blacks v. Australia) in Brisbane. I had a couple of dollars on her, so might get an upgrade on my air ticket.
“It was a thrill and she's getting a few rating points on board. If we can get a bit of black type she might be a good replacement for Lynisky, who died after leaving a nice filly foal by Mastercraftsman,†said Wealleans.
In very similar style to her first win last December at Te Aroha, Show No Emotion worked off the rail nearing the straight and although tending to lay out a touch going right-handed she still proved too good under apprentice jockey Josh Oliver.
“She'd had no trials coming in, but did have a couple of gallops down at Taupo,†said trainer Jason Bridgman.
“She suffers from the odd foot problem, being such a big mare, but had been in good fettle and a capable sort of mare on her day I think she can work her way through to open class.
“I took the blinkers off today, and that was another query with her, because she pulls too hard at 1600m. With the blinkers off she relaxes well and we could see her step through to a middle distance during this preparation.
“I've watched Josh (Oliver) of late and he's been riding really tidy races, sitting very balanced and I think he has a bright future,†said Bridgman.
Josh Oliver said: “It's always good to get one for a leading trainer and I'm very thankful for the ride they've given me. She's a lovely big mare, got a lot of ability, still gets lost on her feet a bit and once she gets into the clear by herself she doesn't quite know to run straight.
Weighing in around 620kgs, Show No Emotion has taken time furnishing into her massive frame but Bridgman has always adopted a patient approach and testament is that she has won three of eight starts with evidence of more to come.
