She's Not Bad Indeed

Carrying on from where she left off in January, She's Not Bad(4 m He's Remarkable - Andra, by Zeditave) recorded another impressive victory in the $25,000 Arohanui Hospice Rating 72 1200 metres on 5 April at Awapuni.

A stylish debut winner in March last year over 1400 metres at Avondale, she scored impressively second-up over 1300 metres in October at Hastings, before capping solid form and some bad luck with victory in the Rating 72 1400 metres on 20 January at Te Rapa.

Trainer Jamie Richards opted to give her a freshen-up following the win and off 75 days, and despite not having trialled, she stripped in outstanding order ahead of a peak performance.

Drawn barrier two and following a good trip in the front half of the field, jockey Craig Grylls had her quickening into a gap on straightening for the run home and she spaced her rivals after taking over 200m out. She again showed a very good turn of foot to win easily by two lengths, and one of the most surprising aspects of the win was a generous $6.50 & $2.40 on the NZ TAB tote.

Racing in the Mapperley Stud colours, She's Not Bad was a bred by Simms Davison at Mapperley Stud, a product of resident stallion He's Remarkable (Pentire), and raced by him and Chittick Investments.

“It was a great win,” said Te Akau racing manager Libby Richards. “It's great to get a win for Simms Davison and Garry Chittick. She's a very progressive horse that we've always liked and she's just taken a bit of time.

“It was a great ride by Craig (Grylls). She cleared them very easily and went over the line with her ears pricked.”

Remaining in the same grade as her previous win, but up two-kilos to carry 58.5kgs, She's Not Bad registered her fourth victory from eight starts.

“It was another encouraging win by a filly that was held up with a muscle tweak, up high behind, but she is getting their now,” said trainer Jamie Richards, after levelling at the top of the premiership with his 88thwin for the season.

“We had the race picked out for a little while, but she is a filly that needs reasonable ground so a bit will depend on how the weather holds, and track conditions, as to how long she campaigns for. But, we think she's up to stakes class and certainly the type to go on with it.

“It's always nice to have a horse in the stable for these connections. They're both in the breeding business and getting stakes form to further improve their broodmare bands is what we're trying to achieve.”

A good-looking, correct, filly with an action to match, She's Not Bad is the sixth individual winner for Andra, a mare that won two sprint races to 1100 metres in Australia. Her sire, Zeditave (The Judge), was one of the best sprinters in Australia, while grand-dam sire Twig Moss (Luthier) produced milers and also features in the dam line of Champion stallion Fastnet Rock (Danehill).

She's Not Bad was strapped by Mette Mosebo and Libby Richards.
