The Singapore Turf Club provides this preview for this evening's (Friday NZ time) racing:
RACE 1
Competitive line-up to kick off the new season. Follow The King (9) has finished in the money at his last two runs, including going all the way two runs back. Nice gate. Won't surprise if he dominates this lot. Super Joy (2) does not win often but he is never far from the action. Will have to be used up from his awkward alley, but still warrants consideration. Gallant Heights (4) popped up in the last strides last time out but over 1700m. Drops back in trip and will need a fast pace to suit him. Draw off the track but it does not matter as he will drop back. Can fill the minors with some luck. Rio De Janeiro (7) has been a letdown so far. Last run was not too bad and if he repeats that performance here, he may stand a chance of fighting out the finish.
RACE 2
Pins three-year-old Elite Star (1) showed vast improvement at his racing comeback. A lot more filled-out, he beat all but the winner Bandido. Big run expected. Bullish Luck (8)made stacks of ground to run third albeit a fair way behind impressive winner Nova Eagle on debut. Has improved a few lengths since and should be a major force to reckon with here. Red Jewel (5) is making some headway. Worth an outside place chance. Little Big Man (9) ran okay at his first race. Drawn wide again. Bound to improve further and can be included in calculations.
RACE 3
Small field faces the starter here. Sartorial (4) came close at his last start. Looks the sort who will open his account fairly soon. Go close. Aloha (2) scored with blinker-pacifiers on at his last run. Best when ridden in front. Chance if he gets away cheaply in front. Lim's Sincere (5) is in his element in this kind of race. Will be up with the pace and with some luck, he can finish in the top three. Sing Roulette (1) is down in class and has drawn an alley, which should allow him to lead. If he is left alone upfront, he can spring a surprise.
RACE 4
Infantry (8) was well backed on debut and was just a touch green in finishing second. Badly drawn, but can still go one better. Scimitar (2) had only three runs at his first prep, turning in his best run at his last start. Tipped out since and he looks ready to show his wares. First try over Polytrack. Will be thereabouts. Magstock (9) is another one with some potential. Still not quite 100% but he will be a useful sort once the penny drops. Marble one. Celeritas (1) has gate speed but has been beaten by wide gates of late. Has drawn slightly better this time. Can atone.
RACE 5
Going with Kam's Comet (6). Was hopelessly held up for a run at a crucial stage of the race at his last outing. Big say. Jay Eff Express (3) was not disgraced at his first Polytrack run. Missed the kick and did not seem to enjoy being on the inside. Still ran on well late. Improved run expected. Mr Fantastic (9) scored his most impressive win to-date at his last start. Has improved by leaps and bounds and though he is up in grade, he can hold his own here. Well drawn. Good News (5) performed above expectations at his last start. Can make his presence felt again
RACE 6
Speedy Dragon (1) was one of the finds late last year. Can go right through his ranks. Has drawn an alley. Hard to beat. Professor X (3) is not an easy horse to ride but he proved his qualities with an early win second-up. Has trained on and is capable of doubling the dose even if he is taking on a higher grade. Lim's Showcase (7) ran on for a creditable sixth first-up from a five-month spell. Bound to strip fitter. Can pinch a place. Himalaya Dragon (2) is resuming after a seven-month spell. Loves the Poly and cannot be ruled out for a forward run first-up.
RACE 7
Speed Craft (2) flew home for second at his last start. Keep an eye on him. General Conatus (1) is proven at the distance. Has a nice turn of foot and if he gets the right breaks, he may well get up here. Easy Easy (5) is stepping up in distance. Made plenty of ground at his last run to finish a close third to Sacred Crown. Chance if he stays. Han Solo (7)has been creeping up to a first win but the winning post has proven elusive. Maybe the force will awaken here from barrier No 1 and in this moderate affair.
RACE 8
If there was win that was hailed as out-of-the-box, it has to be that of Nova Eagle (9) when he took his rivals apart at his comeback race from a seven-month break. On that form, he will be hard to beat, even if he will have to contend with a few serious opponents. US-bred newcomer Sun Miracle (3) scored an impressive win on debut. Speedy sort who may well prove hard to reel in if he gets a soft lead again. Court Case (8) was another debutant who left a solid impression at his first run. Showed an abundance of speed and kicked clear for an easy win. Bit of a rogue, but has plenty of ability. Katagas (4) showed a brilliant acceleration to score at his fourth Kranji start. Seems to need longer but if the pace is on, he will be right around the corner again.
RACE 9
Trainer Patrick Shaw has a strong hand in this race he has already won three times. After his Gold Cup heroics, Cooptado (2) will carry the weight of expectations here. Has been maintained in good shape by trainer Patrick Shaw. Respect again. Quechua (1) won that race last year and will bid for back-to-back wins. Form is good after his Gold Cup fifth to stablemate Cooptado. Seems more dour these days and a place prospect looks better. Order Of The Sun (7) showed his never-say-die qualities when he dead-heated with Best Tothelign in the Colonial Chief Stakes. No weight on his back and will again be hard to peg back if he gets his own way in front. Perfect P (8) ran a cracking third in the Gold Cup. First Polytrack test. Works well on it and there is no reason why he cannot show up here.
RACE 10
Consistent galloper Lim's Rally (1) found one better at his last two runs. In rattling form and this looks right up his alley. Last-start winner The General (3) drops back in trip but it should not faze him. Holding form and will be right in the mix in this. Eatons Gold (8) ran a cheeky race at his last start. Looks safely held here but he can sneak into the minors with some luck. This is harder for Clip The Ticket (7). But he is in sparkling form and it would not surprise anyone if he can get on the board again.
RACE 11
Newcomer Wonderful (4) boasts a perfect record of one win from one start in Sydney where he was prepared by premier trainer Chris Waller. Looks to have settled in quickly. Can make victorious debut. Ladrone (2) has not taken long to show his talent at Kranji. Granted, this is more difficult, but his battling qualities can see him hold his own in this.Anonymous (8) has done okay at his two runs from a layoff. Seems to be looking for more distance. Place claims at best. Sugar Man (6) is seldom far from the action. Reliable sort in this company. Commands respect.
