Singapore Racing Friday Preview
29 August, 2014
The following preview is courtesy of the Singapore Turf Club - race analysis and race selections for Friday's racing at Kranji -
RACE 1
No standouts in the opening event. Live Well (10) was given a brief let-up after his last-start win. Racing in better fashion with blinkers on. Won't surprise if he goes well fresh. Simpang (8) has been around the mark in similar company and over that kind of trip and track. Keep safe. This should be easier for Machfive (1). Compounded badly at his last run. Seems to enjoy Polytrack racing better these days. Place claims. That'stheone (2) has mixed his form since his all-the way win in June, but was not beaten that far behind. Nicely drawn. In his element here and can turn form around.
RACE 2
Rock Of Ages (4) has finished on board at his last two starts. Won a barrier trial on August 21 and shapes up as the horse to beat here. Super Joy (1) showed marked improvement at his last run when a close second to Invincible Gold. Chances enhanced if he can cross to the lead from his awkward alley. Sunday Sun (7) made an encouraging debut when he overcame a wide gate to lead. Will burn less petrol from marble one this time. Leading hope. D'Benson (5) ran eighth on debut, eight lengths off the smart winner Affleck. This is a lot easier and he should have a bigger say this time.
RACE 3
Noted speedster Lion Master (3) is likely to grab the lead from barrier No 1. Beaten by Scrat last time out after showing the way. If he can get away to cheap sectionals, he may well score from start to finish. Afternoon Delight (11) is backing up from her win last Friday. Will have Joao Moreira back aboard. Cannot be ignored even if she is meeting tougher opponents this time. Richeast (6) has a good turn of foot. If the pace is on, he can sail home again. Should be in the hunt. Probo Chandroso (4) did not fire a shot at his last start. Worth better than that and can be included in exotics.
RACE 4
With his usual riders sidelined through injury and suspension, trainer Patrick Shaw is certainly making full use of Joao Moreira's short Kranji stay. He has given the ace rider another brilliant chance here - Barnato (7). Had a tough run when unable to cross to the rails first-up and will strip fitter for this. After a brilliant debut, Mexican Gal (9) was a shade disappointing at her next start. Still learning what racing is all about. Can atone. A blinkered Seaswallow (8) was a different proposition when allowed to roll forward last time out. Has trained on and should take a hand in this. Mastermind (3) won a barrier trial on August 12 by seven lengths. Back from a two-month let-up. Will give some sight if left alone upfront.
RACE 5
Rory (4) let down too late at his last run. Can be an in-and-out performer, but on his last run, he must be in with a shout. Sugar Man (2) did not fire a shot at his last outing when well supported. Laid out in the home straight. Worth another look. Virgin Galactic (3) will have to prove his last-start easy win was no flash in the pan. Has drawn wide this time and also picks up four kilos more. Can still finish in the money. Browne's Anatomy (6) changed yard after his last-start win. In good form and can be counted on again.
RACE 6
This is shaping as a mouth-watering clash between Sand Lane (6) and Peace No War (7). Both look well-in on weights after their last-start wins, though Sand Lane is probably slightly better off. Faaltless (5) makes his racing comeback since his unplaced run in the Singapore Three-Year-Old Classic (1400m) in May. Has a good first-up record and won't surprise if he emerges here. Golden Sand Steed (1) is a game sort who is seldom far from the thick of the action. Will relish extra 100m. Place claims.
RACE 7
The much-improved Brad (10) is knocking on the door. Has improved out of sight ever since blinkers have been added. Nice draw. Horse to beat. Callide River (8) bounced back to form with the application of pacifiers last Sunday week. Holding form and can slot into the quartet here. Fei Yue (5) scored an impressive win at his last run when blinkers were taken off. This is harder, but with some luck, he can fill the minors. Gallant Heights (6) will find this right up his alley. Will be a threat if he can wind up on time.
RACE 8
On his last-start rattling run when he beat all but Darci Charmer, Royal Style (3) looks a bright chance here. Third-up from a spell and should give this a shake. Spyder (2) scored in heavy rain three weeks ago. Can handle dry conditions as well. No reason why he can't be in the firing line again. Robert E (5) cannot be written off in this kind of race. Wide draw is only query. If he can overcome that, he should be in the hunt. Good News (6) ran an improved race with the blinkers on last time out. If he reproduces that run, he should be competitive again.
