Singapore Sunday Preview

The Singapore Turf Club provides an overview of Sunday's racing at Kranji:

RACE 1
Last-start winner Barnburgh Lad (4) can double the dose. Has trained on and will relish the 1200m even better. Wide draw is a query, though. His main threat will be Simpang (9) who closes in late in his races. Nicely drawn. In good nick and another late charge is on the cards. Red River Rock (2) had every chance at his last run but did not kick on when the chips were down. Place claims. Star Academy (7) drifted back early and never got going afterwards. Won three starts back but over 1600m. May find this too sharp but if they go mad in front, she can finish on top of them.

RACE 2
El Verdugo (1) may have hit the lead a little too soon last time out. Drops back to 1200m which should be more his cup of tea. Well drawn in barrier No 2. Can break through here. Mighty Glory (4) keeps running good races without winning. Winkers on. Knocking on the door and he should be a strong factor again. Another customer who is not far from his winning turn is Racer King (5). Never out of the placings in four outings, he looks the goods in this. Sharper with blinkers. Trainer Michael Freedman saddles two newcomers and of the two, Titanium (11) seems more forward. Ran a narrow second to Sebas in a barrier trial on September 2. Has drawn an alley.

RACE 3
Thumping (1) powered home late for fourth first-up from a short let-up. This trip suits better. Can mix her form, but at her best, she should take some beating in this. Trainer Cliff Brown saddles a duo of last-start winners in Gold Hill and Californian Jet. Gold Hill (7) was the more impressive of the two as he upstaged a smart sort in Golden Brilliant. Big say. Californian Jet (10) is up in class, but the way he finished off suggests he should measure up here as well. Give Alfonso (6) another chance. One-pacer who can always pop up for the minors. Will race handy from the good draw.

RACE 4
Top sprinter Emperor Max (1) makes his long-awaited racing comeback in the Garden City Trophy. Wrapped up last prep on a high note with victory in the Group 2 Stewards' Cup (1400m). Looked in good shape in a barrier trial on September 9 when third to War Affair. Hard to beat. Hypernova (10) is a game sprinter who has run second at his last two runs at Group level. Drawn in one which will put him in a stalking spot. Will be running on with some cheek again. Italian Job (9) flashed home late for second to Huka Falls first-up from a three-month spell. Will strip fitter and must be included in your calculations. Goal Keeper (2) must be credited with a decent race when he stuck on for third to Huka Falls last Sunday. Blinkers replaced with pacifiers. Backing up and must be respected.

RACE 5
A couple of interesting runners here. Guilty Pleasures (2) let down powerfully to run second last time out. On that run, he must be treated seriously here, especially from the better draw. Winkers on. Super Eight (8) has done nothing wrong in two starts for one second and one third. Winkers on. Top-three finish on the cards. Flamboyant (3) was ridden more positive by going forward at his third run but weakened out of it in the end. May be better held up for a run, especially as he has drawn the widest this time. Winkers replaced with blinkers. Commands respect. Masurao (4) did not do too badly as a two-year-old. Resuming and a good run is not to be ruled out. Blinkers on.

RACE 6
It would take a brave man to tip against War Affair (6) though he did find one better at his last racing comeback. He looked a lot fitter on the training tracks this time and a forward run is widely expected. Facing a decent field in the Committee's Prize but remains the horse to beat. Good draw is a bonus. Don't look any further than Daniel (2) as his main danger. The Laurie Laxon-trained grey has never beaten War Affair in four match-ups, but he has improved a few lengths since. Looks disadvantaged at the weights, though. Wide draw. Still a bright chance. Magneto (8) scored a solid win last time out. Heading towards bigger and better things and will be in the mix again. Wild Geese (1) did not quite fire up last time out. Remains a consistent performer who can make his presence felt, though he looks safely held by classier rivals. Blinkers replaced with pacifiers.

RACE 7
Blinker-pacifiers did the trick on Alasamo (1) who blitzed his rivals by just under nine lengths last time out. Won't give the slip this time, though, but will still give the rest something to chase in the home straight. Another runner who has switched on with the help of the same gear is Picture (5). Scored two wins from last three runs when he started donning blinker-pacifiers. Big say. Pinyin (3) is holding form, recording one win and two placings at his last three runs. Will be in the mix again. Escalade Peak (10) stormed home last time out, but had to settle for third place to Johnny Hates Jazz. Place claims.

RACE 8
Chasing a hat-trick of wins, Seaswallow (10) should have plenty of admirers here. Beat a smart sort in Barnato last time out. Will find this a touch harder but he can still hold his own again. Tashi (7) looked all set for a first-up win until Confiero flew home late to claim him. Will derive heaps of benefit from that run. Big say. Master Dragon (1) does his best when ridden from the front. Just outlasted rivals last time out. Place claims. Ghost (9) revelled in the rain-affected track last time out to beat all but Spyder. Has made further headway and can finish in the money. Has drawn an alley.

RACE 9
Fairly even contest. Exquisitely Sweet (1) seems to be racing better with the pacifiers on. Flashed home for second last time out. Go close. Ninetysix Champ (5) bounced back to form last time out when a closing second to Little Jumbo. One to watch. Natural Nine (3) is making some headway. Finished on the podium at last three starts. This does not look any tougher. Will appreciate extra 100m. Lion Master (4) has speed to burn but just needs to work on his stamina. Danger if left alone upfront.

RACE 10
Bold frontrunner U Got It (3) scored over the mile at his last win two runs back. If he can get away with some cheap sectionals, he may prove hard to run down. Dark Pulse (6) ran a creditable fourth to Cheetah On Fire at his last run. Seems to be getting back in form. Can fight for a place. Caiyaya (4) is back in form. Steps up from sprints to the mile. With some luck, he can make his presence felt here. Marea Negro (11) has not done too badly with one win and several placings under the belt. Has early speed and should be able to dictate.
