Singapore Sunday Previews

The Singapore Turf Club previews its Sunday meeting:

RACE 1

Chances galore in this opener. Royal Finish (4) ran a narrow second at his last start when blinkered for the first time. Will relish extra 200m. Must be included in calculations. US-bred Catch Me Great (1) won convincingly at his last outing. Step-up to 1400m should not be a worry. Good gate. Can give some sight again. Argentinian-bred Power Play (2) needed the run on debut but still went okay. Would have benefitted from that first run under the belt. Can be considered. Give North Atlantic Ice (10) an outside chance. Leaves his runs late but from barrier No 1, he may get a softer run on the inside and ping late.

RACE 2

Last-start beaten favourite Razzostella (2) is back on turf over which he should be more competitive. Give him another shot. Jet Away (8) was only found out late at his two runs thus far. In great form but horror gate is a killer. Still a big say, nonetheless. Tenma (13) did not live up to his promising debut with a lacklustre second-up run. First turf race. Can redeem himself.Flamboyant (1) has been around the mix without really threatening. This looks a shade easier. May give this a crack.

RACE 3

English import Bremner (6) is knocking on the door. Blinkers seem to have improved him. Won't be long before he seals first win. Bob (2) is a consistent sort who had every conceivable chance at his last run, but got swamped late. Drawn off the track again. Can be counted on. The combination of Military Alliance (11) with Zac Purton has not gone unnoticed. Purton rides Military Attack for the same Hong Kong connections in the SIA Cup later. Improving sort who is one of the many chances here. Big say. High Troja (7) ran on well fresh-up at his last outing over a trip which was too short. Still no win here but the Irish-bred is nearing best form. Worth some thought.

RACE 4

Following his exciting debut when he gapped his rivals easing down, Famous Artist (3) looks all set to double the dose in this Novice race. Has drawn the widest, but if he shows the same gate speed as at his win and can cross early, he will be hard to beat. The race is not won yet as he has a few smart sorts to contend with. Mings Man (1) has not finished out of the placings this prep. Has also drawn off the track and likes to go forward. Chance if he can get a good posie in transit. Divided House (11) scored going away at her second start but did not beat much. Faces stronger lot. Place claims. Great Sun (6) lost no marks when fourth to Powernova at his last run. Bad gate against him, but remains a likely contender if he can get a smother early.

RACE 5

Another open race with a host of chances. With Joao Moreira in the saddle, one has to like the chances of Fraajilistic (2). Game sort who may find an extra length or two under the Brazilian star. Reach For The Sun (5) has come back in fine fettle this campaign. Looks all set to revisit the winner's circle. Twickenham (3) has had two runs under the belt since resuming. Looking for longer but the 1400m will suit. In great shape and will be right in the mix. These Streets (6) disappointed without blinkers at his last outing. Trainer is putting on a set with a left-side cup only. Wide draw, though. Place claims at best.

RACE 6

Great contest lining up. Ideal Guide (1) was back to his best at his last outing. Stepped back up to a journey that will suit him.  Mighty Warrior (11) has proven to be more than a handy sort in four runs. Faces stiffer opposition but can measure up. Strong claims. Kate's Keeper (6) was a little wayward in looking for daylight last time out. Could not quite peg back the winner A La Victory, but will have a huge say in this. Powernova (7) was a little slow out of the gates last time out. Made some ground but was too far back to make an impression. Can sneak into the minors.

RACE 7

Bourbon Goldman (9) was an unlucky second to Hughsy in the Group 3 Admiralty Classic Stakes. Might not have won but the check he took at the top of the straight did cost him one length or two. Born To Fly (1) is as honest as they come. Scored first-up and unless he falls prey to the second-up syndrome, he should be a leading force to reckon with. Honest mare Gold Rutile (10)seldom disappoints. In her element and from barrier No 1, she will be chiming in late. Goodman (2) flopped badly last time out. Worth better than that run suggested. Wide alley does not help matters. Won't be at skinny odds this time, but can still make presence felt.

RACE 8

Smart sprinter Faaltless (3) has again drawn wide. He was out on a limb in a similar scenario last time out in the Lion City Cup. Chance only if he goes forward without being used or if he gets a smother in a handy spot. Huka Falls (1) showed a glimpse of his old form at his last run. Has been working a treat and is spot-on for that race. Won't surprise if he is the one to catch in the home straight. Cavallo (2) can never be underestimated in such contests. Will fly home if the speed is on. Hypernova (8) is another customer who could charge home late if they go mad in front. Outside chance.

RACE 9

Top sprinter Aerovelocity (2) can keep Hong Kong's flag flying high in the Sprint. Versatile sort who can be ridden off the pace or lead. Has not raced since his Japan win in the Takamatsunomiya Kinen in March but looks as fit as a fiddle. The horse to beat. Zac Spirit (5) remains the local leading hope. Third in that race last year when he lost his cool at the gates. Has improved since and will be a different proposition to the overseas team this year. Rich Tapestry (3) is a seasoned traveller who has won on dirt but can race on turf as well. Last run in the Dubai Golden Shaheen was full of merit. Run down late in the home straight. Has settled in well here and should be a factor. Emperor Max (6) made a solid comeback when a close third to War Affair in the Lion City Cup. Has improved further from that run. Go close again.

RACE 10

Fairly open SIA Cup this year. Free Port Lux (9) is among the overseas runners who have worked the best at Kranji. French form is mixed but he did run on at his comeback race at Group 2 level. Hard to know how his form will stack up but hails from an astute yard. Cannot be dismissed. Last year's winner Dan Excel (2) has had a chequered run since, seeing his Melbourne visit derailed by a throat infection and running up against stablemate and world's highest-rated turf horse Able Friend, but latest run suggests he is back to his best. Commands respect. The 2013 victor Military Attack (1) has lost a bit of his shine of late, but he remains a solid competitor. Looked in good nick on the training tracks. Don't write him off too soon. Stepitup (7) has been working a treat since his QEII Cup win three weeks ago. Faces stiff task but a place is not beyond him.

RACE 11

No real standout in the last race. Golden Curl (4) scored back-to-back wins on Polytrack. Back on turf. Should be in the firing line again. Last-start winner Wimbledon (9) is up in class. In top form and is worth a wager in this. Rise ‘N' Shine (2) is back after a year. Has trialled in good fashion. May need the run but he can still fill a minor spot. Black Fury (10) fought hard at his first test at Class 3 level before going down narrowly to Media Captain. Place claims.
