25 August, 2022
Given a sweet trip by Opie Bosson, Savito (4 m Savabeel - Suavito, by Thorn Park) was a quality winner of the Race With Te Akau - NZ's Champion Stable Maiden 1300 metres on 24 August at Taupo. The first of six winners for the stable on the day, with only seven races contested.
Adorned in the Waikato Stud colours for breeder/owner Garry Chittick, Savito ended her previous campaign finishing second to stable-mate She's A Showoff (Showcasing) in the Maiden Fillies & Mares 1200 metres on 8 June at Matamata, and made good ground for second in a trial on 16 August at Avondale.
Aided with having trialled well previously at Taupo, Savito secured a lovely trail before pushing through a narrow gap in the straight and sprinted home stylishly to beat stable-mate Belle Of The Ball (Savabeel), providing a Savabeel (Zabeel) quinella with Waikato Stud bred horses.
On Soft6 footing, Savito clocked 1:21.5, last 600m in 36.5, and paid $2.50 & $1.10 on the NZ TAB tote.
“She's still getting there in the coat, so plenty of improvement to come, and it was a lovely ride by Opie,†said trainer Mark Walker
By Cox Plate winner and seven time Champion Sire Savabeel, her dam Sauvito scored two Group One victories in weight-for-age events over 1400m at Caulfield: Futurity Stakes (Gr. 1, 1400m) and the C F Orr Stakes (Gr. 1, 1400m). She won additional Group races in the Blamey Stakes (Gr. 2, 1600m), Matriarch Stakes (Gr. 2, 2000m), and Tesio Stakes (Gr. 3, 1600m).
While her second dam, Queen Cha Cha (High Chaparral), left four individual winners of 20 races including the winners of seven group races.
Commenting on behalf his father, Mark Chittick (below) said: “It's good to see horses getting out again on a lovely track surface and good to see the season kicking off.
“And thanks very much to Te Akau for their sponsorship, and to Mark (Walker) and his staff for preparing her to win fresh-up under a top ride by Opie.â€
On course representing Te Akau, Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM said: “It's a pleasure to support the Taupo Racing Club, which carries out an extremely important role in the industry and we love coming here for track gallops and racing.
