Stakes' Leader, Stakes' Race Leader
28 January, 2018
At Te Akau we are HUGELY proud of the team's efforts at last night's Karaka Million Twilight meeting - Te Akau's last season Karaka Million winner Melody Belle kick started the programme with a decisive victory in the Group 3 Mongolian Khan Trophy.
Embellish also almost had the $1 million Karaka 3YO Classic in the bag when narrowly defeated in the final stages of the event (worth $1 million for the first time), finishing a bold second.
To cap the night - after winning the first race - Te Akau lined up five of the 14 two year old starters in the Karaka Million and ran the quinella - making it back to back million dollar race victories. Unbeaten filly Avantage claimed line honours, now with four starts, four wins. Te Akau stable rider Opie Bosson was once again in scintillating form.
Meantime, Listed winner Al Hasa, the Exceed and Excel colt for our 2017 Colt Syndicate, ran the race of his career from an awkward draw to finish a courageous second in the hands of leading international rider Hugh Bowman.
All of these horses were purchased by David Ellis - and we are at Karaka today again - with the sale kicking off tonight for the first time on a Sunday - at 5pm - watch our website and share in the action - we look forward to hearing from you!!
The latest Trainers' Premiership table tells the story - Te Akau has trained almost double the number of Group and Listed winners in New Zealand - we were the first stable to hit $1 million in stakes in New Zealand again this season - and we currently are the leading stakes' earner for our owners! The table below is as of today - source NZ Thoroughbred Racing.
We welcome you to join the team!
Premierships are based on performances during each racing season (August 1st - July 31st). The jockey and trainer with the most wins at the end of the season are the Premiership winners. These statistics are updated daily.
