Successful Start to Singapore Season
New Year's Day in Singapore sees the commencement of a brand new racing season - with the Singapore Turf Club working to a calendar season, January to December.

It didn't take long for Te Akau Singapore trainer Mark Walker to get the new season underway either - winning the second race on the programme with Federation (Written Tycoon-Bloomingdale Miss).

A seven time Champion Trainer - with five New Zealand Premierships and two Singapore titles to his credit - Mark welcomed in the New Year with not only this winner but also two runners up and a third placing from the small team engaged on Tuesday.

Federation dominated his rivals in the S$75,000 Restricted Maiden after being sent out the warm favourite for the 1200m event.  The support came on the back of an eye-catching debut by the gelding in early December followed by the sharp trial on Christmas Eve.

With the assistance of top rider Vlad Duric and a handy draw (3), he jumped well and the champion jockey landed him in third position on the fence.  Getting serious as they turned for home, up the rail he came, getting under the leader and claiming Te Akau's first win for the season by a comfortable 2.5 length margin.

Federation is raced by Fortuna Syndicators.
