Sunday Singapore Preview
3 January, 2016
Although we published the Singapore preview of Te Akau's runners for tonight at Kranji, we thought you might be interested in the preview compiled by the Singapore Turf Club itself ...
RACE 1
No obvious picks from this opener. On consistency, Zac Command (2) probably gets the vote. Will appreciate the extra 100m. Gold Stock (4) did not get beaten too far off at his last start in October. Freshened up and will don blinkers for the first time. Can be considered for a place. Smart Supreme (1) ran on strongly for second at his last start. Will drop back from his wide gate and will be ridden for luck. Place claims. Golden Rosewood (10) mixes his form. Not without a say in such company. Keep safe.
RACE 2
With five placings from as many outings, Certainly (6) is overdue for a first win. Back from a freshen-up and should go close. Duke Of Azmaan (3) drew notice with a solid second on debut. Going over same trip. In the hunt for a long way. Golden Diamond (11) is another one who gave an indication of some ability at his first Singapore race. Back in trip but he can still be competitive. The Jeuneyman (2) has been around the mark without really threatening. Will probably enjoy the box-seat from barrier No 1. There is a race for him soon.
RACE 3
A host of swoopers are likely to fight out the finish in this. Just Name It (12) loomed as a winner at his last start but was denied narrowly by Rockfast. Back from a let-up and is one to look out for inside the concluding stages. Amazon Gold (2) lost no marks at his test against tougher opposition last time out. Will jump from a better gate this time. Good chance. Storm Trooper (10) flashed home late for fifth at his last run. Chances enhanced with a more senior jockey this time. Solitaire (1) wound up the 2015 season with two creditable placings. In good nick on the training tracks. Can follow.
RACE 4
There was plenty to like about the way Zip A Dee Doo Dah (5) steamed home at his only two outings. This is up his alley and he can get off the mark here. Spirit Seven (9) showed major improvement at his last run. Drawn wide but it should not bother him too much as he gets back. In the firing line for a long way. Swinglowsweetjacky (3) is slowly coming to hand. Blinkers off. Step-up to 1600m will suit to a tee. Zarules (2) seems to handle the Polytrack mile very well. Nothing he could do against the winner Classified last time out. This looks easier. Can finish in the money.
RACE 5
Open race. Sir Reginald (3) showed that his narrow win in maiden company was no fluke with a closing second to Satellite Prince at his next run. Trip suits. Likely to be a factor again. Winning Good (2) did not have the same dash at his last start. Will find this a shade easier. Can bounce back here. Japanese entire Purmamarca (1) turned in a more encouraging performance at his third start. Won't surprise if he takes this race. Mighty Emperor (6) seldom disappoints in this grade. Can match this lot. Will be right in the mix in this.
RACE 6
Lovely race with chances aplenty. Zippy (2) has a good turn of foot but has been timing his runs a little too late. Will be a big danger if he launches at the right time. Chips (8) is knocking on the door. Big drop in weight. Commands respect. Numero Uno (3) flew home for second at his last start. Has drawn marble one. Should figure prominently in this. Ollie Eagle (1) is another one who shouldn't take too long to open his account. Last run was a beauty but he was denied by Fortune Spirit. Can give this a shake.
RACE 7
Model of consistency Power Play (2) looked all over the winner until Clutha Lad (4) sailed past at his last outing. He can salute this time. Blademeister (8) seems to handle the Polytrack better. Blinker-pacifiers on. Drawn better, he can make the trifecta. Clutha Lad may be found out by the 4 kilo penalty this time, but it is still hard to see him finish out of the top three. War Time (3) was in a good spot but faded in the home straight. Worth better than this. Deserves another chance.
RACE 8
No real standout in this. Lucky Mission (4) warmed up late at his last start. Blinkers on. Will be thereabouts when the whips are cracking. Lincoln Sun (7) is a one-time New Zealand winner over 1400m. Scored a barrier trial win at Kranji on December 22. Looks fit and ready and should run a bold race. Jelly Bean (10) may have found the 1400m too far at her last couple of outings. Is in good shape and is worth including in your calculations. Host The Nation (3) is in his element in such races. Will be running on at the business end.
RACE 9
Small but select field. Goal Keeper (2) will have the control of the race all to himself in this small field. Can go all the way if he gets away cheaply in front. Valevole (5) ran a cracking fourth at his comeback race from his Korean trip. Has drawn the inner gate. Big say. El Padrino (1) is first-up since his Korean trip in August. May need the run, but he loves the Polytrack and his class may see him still take some prizemoney home. Gold Rutile (3) is back after her EW Barker Trophy success. Drops back to 1200m. Will be charging home late.
RACE 10
Lim's Elusive (7) will relish the step-up to the mile. Has drawn perfectly in two. A fast tempo will suit him. Pusaka (5) is a game sort and will be right in the mix inside the concluding stages. Only hiccup is the outermost alley, but he will be fine if he can tuck in somewhere with some cover. Nation Theatre (1) and apprentice jockey Salim Yusoff recombine in a bid to double the dose. No reason why they cannot get along again. Marea Negro (10) tends to let down when it is all over. If she can get her timing better, she can take a hand in this.
RACE 11
Close contest to wrap up the day. Stirling (5) is not without ability but just needs a bit of luck. Has drawn off the track this time but still represents a good chance in this. The resuming Groenewegen (6) trialled nicely without breaking any records on Wednesday. Must be rated a leading hope. Asprey (2) was a touch disappointing at his last run. Can do better than that. Worth another shot. Big Man (10) needed the run at his two first races from a break. Will strip fitter for this. Well drawn. Bears watching.
