Super in Singapore

Te Akau Singapore trainer Mark Walker continued his excellent weekend with a double header at Kranji on Sunday.

Following on from Toast's Angel winning well on Friday night, some of the same connections were thrilled to again land in the winner's circle as Constance's Spirit claimed his maiden win at his fifth start.  It was a spirited fight to the finish and the 3YO American bred gelding showed huge heart to get up on the line.

Constance's Spirit was well supported and it was easy to understand why - in his four prior starts he had three times finished in second place.  The favourite looked to have it all wrapped up as Constance's Spirit flew down the outside under the urgings of Lisa Allpress and Sunday was his day.  His maiden race, with the new stakes increases in Singapore, was worth $75,000!  He will now have earned over $60,000 in only five appearances.

One race earlier it was Hardcore Rock in the spotlight having his third start since arriving in Singapore.  In his $65,000 Initiation 1400m he rocketed home for a stylish and convincing 1.5 length win for top Singapore rider Manny Nunes.  A son of Fastnet Rock and River Dreaming, the gelding known as "Benz" was purchased by David Ellis from the Karaka Premier Sale for $180,000 and is raced by Ian Riley, Tony and Marlene Ellis, Judith Ray, Michael Fleming, Sue McLeod, Houghton-Lee Trust, Jim and Winsome Mitchell, Victor Yee, Cameron McKay, Pat and Marilyn Cadle, Glenn and Catherine Holmes, Barry and Shona Old, Rob Cuff together with David and Karyn.  Congratulations everyone!

Other placegetters on Sunday included Zac Warrior who finished second in his event just ahead of stablemate Mr Bean who was third, Om likewise finished third while Clermont Club ran  a nice race for fourth.  My Tricia, another horse bought by David Ellis from the Karaka Sale, also saluted the judge on Sunday.
