Date: 22 Aug 2024
Te Akau NZ trialled horses in the Group/Listed trials at Taupo - Wednesday 21 August -
Weather: fine, track: Soft7, rail: true.
Heat 1 Open 1100 metres (2 ¼ lengths, head 1:08.5 last 600m 35.0)
Move To Strike (3 c I Am Invincible – No Evidence Needed) – Opie Bosson; last season's first Group 1 juvenile winner globally for his super sire I Am Invincible, settled three back on the inner, was five lengths off the leaders at the 600m, but quickened near the rail in the straight to finish close up for an eye-catching third.
Campionessa (7 m Contributer – Bella Carolina) – Wiremu Pinn; she travelled at the rear on the outer, was some six lengths off the leading bunch at the 600m, but ran home nicely for a staying mare over this sprint trip.
Wolverine (5 m Tivaci – Knew It) – Vinnie Colgan; she travelled at the rear on the inner, was also six lengths back at the 600m and last turning for home, but worked through the line solidly.
Heat 2 Open 1100 metres (short neck, length 1:11.1 last 600m 35.7)
Captured By Love (3 f Written Tycoon – Moldova) – Opie Bosson; last season's multiple Group winner travelled comfortably outside the leader, quickened to level inside the 200m and lengthened to win with her ears pricked in a very satisfying performance - main picture.
Dream Of The Moon (3 f All Too Hard – Moonchild) – Wiremu Pinn; she began well to lead at a moderate pace, quickened topping the rise at the 450m and sustained a very good gallop for a close second.
Heat 3 Open 1100 metres (1 ¾ lengths, 7 lengths 1:09.6 last 600m 35.5)
Mehzebeen (5 m Almanzor – Salkantay) – Craig Grylls; she travelled midfield on the inner, was pushed up nearing the home turn and finished well near the rail for third over too short a distance for the staying type she is.
Cognito (5 g So You Think – Lady Primrose) – Wiremu Pinn; he began well to situate outside the leader, however became detached in the straight and was not asked for too much in finishing fourth.
Unbridled Joy (3 c Snitzel – Joy Forever) – Vinnie Colgan; he settled rear on the outer, was about five lengths off the leaders at the 600m, but was seen doing his best work through the line over a sprint trip which is not his forte.
Certainly (4 m Savabeel – Frankly) – Opie Bosson; she settled at the rear on the inner, five lengths off at the 600m, and remained back over a sprint trip, being a mare who needs further to show her best.
