Taupo Treble - Insatiable Impressive

Impressive winning a trial on the course as a two-year-old, Insatiable (3 g All Too Hard - All Day Baby, by More Than Ready) scored in the $14,000 Maiden 1200 metres on 7 February at Taupo.

Having got back and tight for room in the straight when fifth on debut in the Maiden 1215 metres on 28 December at Rotorua, Insatiable was given time by trainer Mark Walker, who had a memorable day with three wins which included his 1000th domestic victory.

“We rated him one of our best two-year-olds after he won his trial here, but he's had a few maturity issues with his joints as he's grown and has just taken a bit more time,” said racing manager Reece Trumper.

With stable jockey Opie Bosson aboard, Insatiable eased across from barrier 10 to be one off in midfield. He improved nicely to camp on the leaders nearing the home turn, levelled on straightening, and dug in to defy the well supported Paul David (Reliable Man).

“He's a promising horse and I like the way he got there and then wouldn't let the other horse go past,” said Bosson, who gave him a lovely ride.

“When I gave him a couple with the stick he really lifted. He'll keep and he'll be right.”

On Soft6 footing, Insatiable ran 1200 metres in 1:13.4, last 600m in 35.7, and shortened in betting to pay $2.20 & $1.20 on the NZ TAB tote.

Insatiable was purchased by David Ellis CNZM for $190,000 at the 2021 Karaka Book 1 Sale, from the draft of Windsor Park Stud, and owned by Te Akau All Too Much Racing Partnership (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM).

“I'm thrilled for the owners, which includes All Black Anton Lienert-Brown, and hopefully with a win under his belt at his second start he can go on with it now,” Ellis said.

“He was a bit stiff on debut and to come out and win second-up is great for everyone involved.

“It's the fifth day in a row that the team has had horses racing, with winners at every meeting, and they're all just working so hard.

“When everyone else has a public holiday, our team has to work the horses and the fact that they do it so willingly and show so much dedication is why I admire them so much.

“It's incredible how much work they put in for our owners. There is great team morale and they do it with smiles on their faces. Karyn and I are so proud of them all, at the stable and the stud.”

The sire of Insatiable, All Too Hard (Casino Prince), is a half-brother to the unbeaten champion Black Caviar (Bel Esprit), who won all 25 of her starts, including 15 Group One wins, while also the sire of Queensland Horse of the Year Alligator Blood, Champion Sprinter in Hong Kong Wellington, and multiple Group One winners Behemoth and Forbidden Love.

All Too Hard has sired 55 stakes' winners, among 1256 wins in total.

Dam All Day Baby is by international sire More Than Ready (Southern Halo). Incredibly, world renowned dam sire More Than Ready (Southern Halo) has sired 4,123 winners including 258 stakes' winners and 50 Group One winners, and is already proving an exceptional Australian broodmare sire.

More Than Ready has been a Champion Sire in both hemispheres, proved to an outstanding sire of sires, and is going from strength-to-strength as a broodmare sire.

At the time of purchase, Ellis said: “He's a really nice physical specimen in the mould of his strong Australian pedigree.

“We rated him really highly and he is by a stallion that has left a lot of winners in the time he's been at stud.

“He's a ripping type, walked really well, and although there was very strong competition for the horse we were pleased to get him.”

Insatiable was strapped by Stephanie Hyde-Richards.
