Taupo Treble - No.1 Kylie Bax
9 October, 2019
Following a second and third in her first campaign, Kylie Bax (4 m Pentire - Platinum Blond, by Kaapstad) resumed with an emphatic victory in the $10,000 Pitch Sports Bar & Lucky Lizard Maiden 1200 metres on 9 October at Taupo.
A performance commentator George Simon succinctly described, when saying: “She jumped, led, dictated, and won.
In training for Windsor Park Stud, Kylie Bax ran the 1200 metres in 1:12.2, last 600m in 34.8 - times that indicated she controlled terms - winning by three and a quarter lengths under rider Danielle Johnson.
Trialling on 23 September at Cambridge, Kylie Bax was never out of second gear when finishing second, which gained her favouritism (paying $3.10 & $1.50 on the NZ TAB tote) ahead of third placed stable-mate Hierarchy (Burgundy).
“She trialled well at Cambridge, and it was a lovely ride from Danielle (Johnson),†said trainer Jamie Richards.
“She headed into the race in the right shape, after unfortunately having a hold up in her last preparation and a big thank you to the team at Windsor Park, Roddy and Gina (Schick), they've been patient and their patience has been rewarded.
With regards Hierarchy, Richards said: “I thought he was okay, but thought he might have kicked a little bit better. But, when she (Kylie Bax) put the hammer down in front he was left a bit flat-footed and he might be looking for 1400 (metres) or a set of blinkers. His win will be coming shortly.â€
Kylie Bax is the last foal from Platinum Blond (Kaapstad), a mare that has left nine individual winners of 21 races and the family of Captain Cook Stakes (Gr. 1, 1600m) winner Penny Gem (Pentire) and Railway Handicap (Gr. 1, 1200m) winner Alynda (Nassau).
“It's good to get the monkey of the back and she's a filly that has just needed time,†said Rodney Schick. “She's well bred, from quite a fast family and a sister to Entirely Platinum (Group Three winner and three times Group One placed in Australia). It's Alan and Linda Jones' family and the family of Alynda.
“Jamie (Richards) is doing a top job with her and he's having a great year. It's a pleasure to a part of the stable. He's done a great job, having her in and out of the stable a few times and maturity is going to be her friend.â€
When it came to the naming, Schick said: “Gina and I were having a few drinks and Googled famous blondes. New Zealand's most famous blonde is Kylie, so I rang Kylie that night and she said she'd love it. She'll be pretty happy she's won, too, and she looks like she'll go on with it.â€
Kylie Bax was strapped by Tracy Collis.
