Tauranga Winning Treble - Win No.1 Perfect Scenario

Leading trainer Jamie Richards started on the right note when Perfect Scenario (3 g Iffraaj - Rosetti Bay, by Pins) delivered fresh-up in the $10,000 Maiden 3YO 1200 metres on 14 October at Tauranga.

Having pierced through in the straight with a strong finish for second when trialling on 8 September at Ellerslie, Perfect Scenario was pushed up by rider Opie Bosson to secure a handy position on the outer and he sustained a strong gallop after taking over early in the home straight.

Thought enough of to contest the Woburn Farm 2YO Classic (Gr. 3, 1200m) at just his second start last season, Perfect Scenario had good form around him at the races and trials, is from a very good mare that acted fresh, and he justified his short-priced favouritism ($1.50 & $1.00).

On Slow8 footing, rain-affected a day earlier, Perfect Scenario ran the 1200 metres in a highly respectable 1:11.3.

“It was a positive ride from the barriers by Opie (Bosson) and a nice win,” Richards said. “He ended up in a good spot and quickened in well. He got to the front and had a look around, showing a bit of greenness, but he can improve further and open to a better class of race.

“We've got to be happy getting a fresh-up win with him. We won't get too far ahead of ourselves initially and he's appreciated time and a patient approach so far. He will have a couple of quiet days and we'll take it from there, but congratulations to the owners, they're a nice group.”

By a high-quality stallion with 20 Group 1 winners and 124 stakes' winners worldwide, his dam Rosetti Bay (Pins) was an impressive Group 3 winner and multiple group placed mare that won eight races and already left very good stakes winner Queens Rose (O'Reilly) who also won eight. He was purchased by David Ellis CNZM for $165,000 at the 2019 Karaka Book 1 Sale, from the draft of Woburn Farm, for owners in the Te Akau Perfection Syndicate (Mgr: Karyn Fenton-Ellis MNZM).

Rosetti Bay was at her best on reasonable footing, but also had the ability to cope with yielding ground. Leaving winners of 15 races, Perfect Scenario became her fifth individual winner.

“We've always thought highly of him and he became our 30thwinner for the season,” Ellis said. “Jamie (Richards) had told me he was coming up well and as usual he's right on the mark.

“He was bred by Liz Pollard and Gloria Graydon and they're a couple of really good breeders from Te Awamutu. Liz's father, Joe Pollard, was also a good breeder and this horse looks like another good horse they've bred. It's a smart family and another promising one we've bought at Karaka.

“I'd like to give special mention to the team. It's a very busy time with race meetings and as the tracks continue to improve we've got horses ready to race. It means a lot of work and all the team are working really hard.

“We've got a big day coming up on Saturday at Hastings, the third leg of the Triple Crown, and Jamie took two to gallop this morning at Ashburton: Cornflower Blue and Summer Monsoon, ahead of racing there on Sunday. Cornflower Blue has drawn barrier one in the Barneswood Farm Stakes (Gr. 3, 1400m) and we've won that race six times so we will be looking for a seven-peat.”

Perfect Scenario was strapped by Tanweer Alam.
