Te Akau Anzac Day Avondale Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has four horses racing on Anzac Day, Tuesday 25 April, at Avondale.

As on race morning the conditions were: fine and Dead6, rail true. No rain forecast.

3.23 p.m. R5 5 Piper (2 f O'Reilly - Invermoray) - Opie Bosson; backed up a winning trial in February with another victory here over 800 metres on 11 April and makes her race day debut from barrier seven in the $16,000 2YO Fillies 1200 metres. She has the gate speed to take up a handy position, boasts all the right attributes, and evidence within her family of being able to produce a very good first up performance.

3.23 p.m. R5 6 Poppin' Bubbles (2 f Rock ‘N' Pop - Princess Caga) - Michael McNab; makes her debut from barrier five in the $16,000 2YO Fillies 1200 metres. Her two trials registered a fourth and first respectively, most recently when slipping clear around the home turn and showing a good action in what was a smart win on 21 March at Matamata. She is a lovely example of a juvenile filly by this sire, who won the 2000 Guineas (Gr. 1, 1600m) for the Te Akau Rock ‘N' Pop Syndicate, and has a good deal of precocity.

4.29 p.m. R7 3 Zambezi Warrior (4 g Pentire - Zambezi) - Opie Bosson; made up plenty of ground for fourth, running a very competitive final 600m (34.9), when resuming off 70 days in the $25,000 Rating 85 1500 metres on 1 April at Ellerslie. Stable rider Opie Bosson takes over from Te Akau apprentice Jasmine Fawcett, who has a good association with the horse, and he seems poised to give another very good account in the $12,000 Governor General's Cup (Rating 85, 1600m).

5.01 p.m. R8 12 Amperage (4 g Zabeel - Miss Zapper) - Leith Innes; reverts from Saturday company to contest the $10,000 Rating 65 2100 metres. Placed here on Dead4 at his only course attempt, a continuation of fine weather and improving ground conditions will aid his prospects in a pretty solid field.
