Te Akau ANZAC Day Preview
25 April, 2016
Te Akau New Zealand has eight horses racing at two venues on Anzac Day, Monday 25 April.
Avondale:
As on race morning the conditions were: overcast Dead5, rail true.
1.19 p.m. R1 5 Rocksun (3 g Fastnet Rock - Beyond the Sunset) - Matt Cameron; fought hard for second when resuming in the Maiden 3YO 1400 metres at Waipa, has worked well since and steps to a mile. He will have his work cut out from the outside draw (12), but another bold performance is expected.
2.49 p.m. R4 11 Its Our Showtime (3 f Showcasing - Be Inspired) - Matt Cameron; was given a lovely ride and found another gear when winning a recent trial here over 1000 metres and resumes off 201 days in the Maiden 1200 metres. Good form surrounds her debut third at Taupo, and she should acquit herself very well.
4.30 p.m. R7 8 Esprit De Corps (3 g Bel Esprit - Vercors) - Matt Cameron; worked home from the rear for seventh when resuming in the Maiden 3YO 1200 metres at Pukekohe, and barrier four he should appreciate the Maiden 1400 metres. Improvement can see him register a top four finish.
5.01 p.m. R8 15 Stella Di Paco (3 f Paco Boy - Savabeel Star) - Matt Cameron; ran on but was unable to close into a threatening position in the $20,000 Rating 65 1400 metres on Slow8 at Tauranga, having come from last with strong late run for third to stable-mate Tatters (Tavistock) in the Rating 65 1215 metres on Slow7 at Rotorua. From the ace draw in the Rating 65 1400 metres, she can turn things around to prove a factor.
Awapuni:
As on race morning the conditions were: fine and Good3, rail true.
1.34 p.m. R2 6 Spritz (3 f Thorn Park - Spray) - Cameron Lammas; trialled well into third with apprentice Jasmine Fawcett aboard over 1000 metres at Avondale, and resumes off 140 days in the Maiden 3YO 1200 metres. She can run a race fresh up, from barrier three.
3.05 p.m. R5 6 Flirty Gertey (4 m Thorn Park - Granma Gertey) - Cameron Lammas; showed her quality when resuming with a super win in the Rating 75 1200 metres at Pukekohe, in a slick 1:08.9 (600m - 34.5), and steps up in grade for the Rating 85 1200 metres. She has the class edge on most and appears ideally placed to give this a decent shake.
4.12 p.m. R7 8 Chambord (5 g Zabeel - Miss Montjeu) - Chris Johnson; looked home before being claimed by subsequent winner Wiggle (Gold Centre) in the $30,000 Open 1600 metres at Trentham, with this rider aboard, after closing in for second to Overtheriver (Mettre En Jeu) in quick time (1:20.7) over 1400 metres here prior. A talent, he can threaten again from barrier six in the $50,000 Anzac Mile (Listed, 1600m).
