Te Akau Ashburton Midweek Preview

Te Akau Racing has four horses entered on Wednesday 16 April at Ashburton.

Ashburton:

Weather: overcast, track: Soft6, rail: out 5.5 metres 1400m – 400m, cutaway rail out 3 metres in straight. Showers forecast.

4:04 p.m. R8 7 Alminette (5 m Burgundy – High Heels) – Yogesh Atchamah (a2); she has been given time (52 days) since finishing strongly for second when resuming in the Rating 75 1200 metres here on 23 February, and contests the $17,000 Rating 75 1200 metres. A dual winner over this distance, she has weight relief to 53.5kg with the apprentice engagement and while she has a solid course record and good ability, she will require luck from the outside gate (15). Fixed odds: $5.00 & $1.95.

4:04 p.m. R8 8 Mitre Peak (4 m More Than Ready – Liten Prinsessa) – Courtney Barnes; she travelled three back on the outer and ran home strongly down the outside for second in a trial on 1 April at Ellerslie, and resumes in the $17,000 Rating 75 1200 metres. She ended her last campaign in good form, with both wins on the poly-track, but she is handily drawn (4) and appears capable of a bold effort fresh-up on the turf. Fixed odds: $6.50 & $2.25.

5:09 p.m. R10 1 Rule Of Law (4 g Justify – Repeat) – Yogesh Atchamah (a2); he worked on pace and fought hard for a close second in the Rating 65 1600 metres on 19 February at Riccarton, has been given time (56 days), and contests the $17,000 Rating 65 1400 metres. He will drop to 58kg with the apprentice aboard, and he has won and placed over 1400 metres. He generally likes to go forward, and brings the right form to the race to position as a top three chance. Fixed odds: $2.35 & $1.25.
