Te Akau Ashburton Sunday Preview
18 October, 2026
Te Akau Racing has three horses entered on Sunday 18 October at Ashburton.
Ashburton:
Weather: fine, track: Heavy9, rail: true. No rain forecast.
3:35 p.m. R7 3 Arctic Jewel (4 m Frosted – Miss Gem) – Hayley Hassman (a1); she finished well nearer the rail for fifth after getting back when resuming in $18,500 Rating 65 1200 metres on 23 September at Timaru, also with Hayley aboard, and contests the corresponding event. She has won twice to 1200 metres and raced consistently well last season, and rates a top three chance with decent trip from barrier eight - the first of a stable duo in the event. Fixed odds: $3.80 & $1.70.
3:35 p.m. R7 7 Novelette (4 m Cool Aza Beel – Fiction) – Masa Hashizume; she quickened late to grab fourth in a trial here on 15 September, and resumes in the Rating 65 1200 metres. She unleashed a powerful finish for a course/distance win in March, and has continued to race solidly. This is a nice opportunity for her to commence her new campaign with a positive showing from barrier one if she is appreciative of the heavy track conditions. Fixed odds: $4.60 & $1.85.
4:10 p.m. R8 6 Aishiteru (4 m Satono Aladdin – Cuddles For Layla) – Hayley Hassman (a1); she strode forward to lead clearly, had company inside the 600m, and responded gamely in a duel to win her trial on 28 September at Riccarton (poly-track). Resuming in the $18,500 Rating 60 1600 metres, she recorded a strong all-the-way Maiden win over 2000 metres on Heavy8 footing before contesting two stakes’ races, and expect a bold showing fresh up. Fixed odds: $4.20 & $1.90.
