Te Akau Ashburton Thursday Preview

Te Akau Racing has two horses entered on Thursday 4 July at Ashburton.

Ashburton:

Weather: fine, track: Heavy9, rail: true. No rain forecast.

11:25 a.m. R1 1 Fellini (4 g Belardo – Silke Top) – Warren Kennedy; he was shadowed in the lead when finishing fourth in the Rating 84 1400 metres on 13 June at Riccarton (poly track), won by stable-mate Sorcha (Burgundy), and contests the $35,000 3YO & 4YO 1600 metres. Carrying equal top weight (58.5kg), he is ideally drawn (2), is a winner on heavy going and placed at distance, he rates a top three chance. Fixed odds: $4.00 & $1.50.

2:17 p.m. R6 1 Treaty of Paris (4 g Tavistock – Echezeaux) – Denby-Rose Tait (a3); he travelled sweetly in front when winning the Rating 75 2200 metres on 16 May and followed that with a third placing in the corresponding event on 12 June, both on the poly track at Riccarton. Back in grade for the $35,000 Rating 65 & Jumpers 2200 metres, and he enjoys weight relief to 59.5kg with the apprentice aboard. While he brings good form to the equation, much depends on him appreciating the prevailing track conditions. Fixed odds: $5.50 & $2.20.
