Te Akau Ashburton Thursday Preview

Te Akau Racing has four horses entered on Thursday 12 March at Ashburton.

1:37 p.m. R3 10 Novelette (3 f Cool Aza Beel – Fiction) – Triston Moodley (a1); she raced handily and fought well for fourth in the Maiden 1200 metres on 4 February at Riccarton, and contests the $18,500 Maiden 1200 metres. Racing solidly, she has the benefit of weight relief to 55kg, and we think she will well placed, with a positive draw (5) to race well. Fixed odds: $3.00 & $1.55.

2:47 p.m. R5 1 Discretion Rules (4 g Alabama Express – Miss Madonna) – Bruno Queiroz; he travelled well and found the line nicely from back in the field when resuming in the Rating 65 1000 metres on 6 February at Tauherenikau. Contesting the $18,500 Rating 65 1200 metres, he sports a good distance record including a win in the Listed Champagne Stakes (1200m) here as a two year old. He does have to carry the top weight (60kg), but will be aided by his barrier three draw. Fixed odds: $5.00 & $2.05.

4:00 p.m. R7 4 Insatiable (6 g All Too Hard – All Day Baby) – Bruno Queiroz; he kept up a strong gallop to win the Open Handicap 1100 metres on 4 February at Riccarton, and was claimed late at the 200m after racing outside the leader in the Open Handicap 1200 metres on 28 February at Wingatui, won by stable-mate Trobriand. Contesting the $25,000 Open Handicap 1200 metres, he will likely be ridden more patiently and this is a good opportunity for him to bounce back. Fixed odds: $3.10 & $1.50.

4:35 p.m. R8 5 Cool ‘N’ Fast (4 g Savabeel – Cool ‘N’ Sassy) – Triston Moodley (a1); he kept up a strong run after trailing to win the Rating 65 1400 metres here on 20 February, and contests the $18,500 Rating 75 1400 metres. He steps up in grade, has weight relief to 56.5kg, and should have derived confidence from his course/distance win to be ready to figure in the finish here from barrier three. Fixed odds: $4.00 & $1.80.
