Te Akau Avondale Midweek Preview
7 October, 2020
Te Akau New Zealand has 16 horses racing on Wednesday 7 October at Avondale.
Weather: overcast, track: Good3, rail: out 4 metres. No rain forecast.
11.39 a.m. R1 2 Sophisticardo (2 c Burgundy - Glamorous
Girl) - Troy Harris; showed plenty of determination when winning a trial on 6
August at Rotorua, and debuts in the $10,000 2YO 800 metres. His dam, Glamorous
Girl (Thorn Park), impressed winning over 1400 metres before scoring in the
Desert Gold Stakes (Gr. 3, 1600m), and he should race well from barrier three.
12.09 p.m. R2 7 Shezawinkle (4 m Rip Van Winkle - Sheza
Gem) - Danielle Johnson; made ground nicely for fifth in the Maiden 1400 metres
on 23 September at Matamata, and contests the $10,000 Maiden 1600 metres.
Ideally drawn (1), she rates a top three chance with further improvement.
1.18 p.m. R4 1 You're Welcome (5 g Camelot - Chorus of
Angels) - Opie Bosson; was held together in comfortable trial for a staying
type over sprint trip on 22 September at Rotorua, and resumes in the $10,000
Rating 65 1600 metres. Consistent over ground without breaking through last
season, he has acted fresh-up previously and rates a top four chance from
barrier six.
1.18 p.m. R4 8 Shebringsmerubies (5 m Sebring - Run
Away Ruby) - Chelsea Burdan (a2); was not far away in the $10,000 Rating 65 1600
metres on 17 September at Te Rapa, and contests the corresponding event.
Genuine and consistent, she has weight relief to 54kgs and rates an each way chance
from barrier two.
1.53 p.m. R5 10 Sizzler (4 m Sizzling - O'Raghailligh) - Sam Weatherley; produced
a notable effort for fourth to subsequent winner Makzabeel (Makfi) in the $10,000 Maiden 1200 metres on 22
September at Matamata, and contests the corresponding event. She has form in stronger fields and ideally
drawn (5) to prove competitive.
1.53 p.m. R5 17 Kahma Lass (3 f Darci Brahma -
Distinctive Lass) - Danielle Johnson; won stylishly when trialling on 3
September at Te Teko, and produced a very good debut second in the Maiden 3YO
1100 metres on 13 September at Taupo. A sister to nine-time winner Distinctive
Darci, bought by David Ellis and earned NZ$1m prize money in Singapore, she
rates a top three chance from barrier two in the $10,000 Maiden 1200 metres.
1.53 p.m. R5 18 Ready for This (3 g More Than Ready -
Costarosa) - Chelsea Burdan (a2); was without much luck in two starts as a
two-year-old at Riccarton, and following a couple of trials he resumes in the $10,000 Maiden 1200 metres. With weight
relief to 54kgs, he rates a top three chance from barrier seven.
2.28 p.m. R6 10 Perfect Scenario (3 g Iffraaj - Rosetti
Bay) - Michael McNab; pierced through in the straight with a strong finish for
second when trialling on 8 September at Ellerslie, and resumes in the $10,000 Maiden 1200 metres. He has
good form around him at the races and trials, from a very good mare that acted
fresh, and he rates a top three chance from barrier one.
3.03 p.m. R7 2 Excitonic (3 g Savabeel - Bint
Piavonic) - Opie Bosson; delivered emphatically when winning his Maiden over
1400 metres in January at Rotorua, and burst between runners to dead-heat for
second when trialling on 15 September at Te Rapa. The trial winner, stable-mate
Pinultimate (Pins), resumed with a very good second last Saturday at Hastings.
He has the right credentials to rate a top three chance fresh-up in the $10,000 Rating 65 1200 metres.
3.03 p.m. R7 6 Keke Star (4 m Shooting To Win - Kekova) - Danielle Johnson;
produced an exciting debut win in the Maiden 1000 metres on 13 September at
Taupo, and steps up in the $10,000 Rating
65 1200 metres. She clocked a terrific last 600m (33.7) at Taupo, and rates
a top three chance.
3.03 p.m. R7 9 Awareness (4 m Redoute's Choice - Aware) - Michael McNab; weakened
off the pace when resuming in the Rating 65 1200 metres on 19 September at
Ruakaka, having won her Maiden there over 1000 metres on debut last December.
Awkwardly drawn (9) in the $10,000 Rating
65 1200 metres, she will be ridden patiently and look to finish off.
3.03 p.m. R7 11 Xplosion
(4 m Showcasing - Xpress) - Joe Kamaruddin (a4); recorded a well
deserved last start victory over 1340 metres in January at Wanganui, and
following a couple of solid trials for second and third, respectively, she
resumes in the $10,000
Rating 65 1200 metres.
Ideally drawn (3), she has weight relief to 52.5kgs and has top four prospects
in a good field.
4.22 p.m. R9 2 Mai Tai (4 m Atlante - Tropical Punch) - Troy Harris; looked good finishing fourth on debut over 1200
metres in March at Matamata, and resumed with a big effort for second in the
Pearl Series 1200 metres on 17 September at Te Rapa. She rates a top three
chance in the $10,000 NZB Insurance Pearl Series 1400 metres (eligible $11,500
bonus).
4.57 p.m. R10 5 Shadow
Warrior (4 g Shamoline Warrior - Baldaque) - Opie Bosson; sustained
a strong gallop to win a trial here in March, trialled twice since and debuts
in the $10,000 Maiden 1400 metres. Drawn barrier one ensures an economical
trip.
4.57 p.m. R10 18 Kathies Choice (4 m Redoute's Choice - Everswindell) - Danielle
Johnson; finished strongly for a close second on 15 September at Te Rapa, and
debuts in the $10,000 Maiden 1400 metres. Emulation of her latest trial should
see a solid performance from barrier four.
5.37 p.m. R11 2 Fabulous Flight (6 g I Am Invincible -
Court Flying) - Opie Bosson; has won four times to 1600 metres and resumes in
the $11,000 Rating 74 1400 metres. He has tenacious qualities, dealt no favours
drawn 14 but capable of figuring with the right trip if appreciative of the
course at his first attempt.
