Te Akau Avondale Monday Preview

Te Akau Racing has nine horses entered on Monday 26 April at Avondale.

Weather: fine, track: Slow8, rail: true. Showers forecast.

12.50 p.m. R2 17 Conquistador(3 g Savabeel - Suavito) - Opie Bosson; went forward when finishing third on debut in the Maiden 1350 metres on 8 April at Wanganui, and contests the $10,000 Maiden 2YO & 3YO 1400 metres. He kept up a very good gallop for second when trialling here as a two-year-old and ideally drawn (1).

1.23 p.m. R3 2 Irish Red (2 f Burgundy - Niamh Elizabeth) - Opie Bosson; was unlucky not to win when quickening into second on debut in 2YO 1200 metres on 8 April at Wanganui. She was solid through the trials stage and rates a top three chance despite drawing wide (11) in the $15,000 NZB Insurance Pearl Series / Fasttrack Insurance 2YO Fillies 1200 metres (eligible $8,000).

1.23 p.m. R3 8 Trieste (2 f Tivaci - Domani Oro) - Danielle Johnson; quickened in a duel to win well when trialling on 6 April at Ellerslie, and debuts in the $15,000 NZB Insurance Pearl Series / Fasttrack Insurance 2YO Fillies 1200 metres (eligible $8,000). From the family of Emancipation Stakes (Gr. 2, 1600m) winner Sworn to Secrecy (Keeper), she has the speed to put herself in the race.

1.23 p.m. R3 10 Ifyourample (2 f Iffraaj - More than Adequate) - Sam Weatherley; kept up a solid gallop near the rail for third when trialling on 6 April at Ellerslie, and debuts in the $15,000 NZB Insurance Pearl Series / Fasttrack Insurance 2YO Fillies 1200 metres (eligible $8,000). From a very good family of juvenile sprinting fillies, her dam has left two winners of seven races.

2.32 p.m. R5 10 Vitani  (3 f Pins - Queen of Lions) - Danielle Johnson; produced a couple of solid performances during her first campaign, held her spot without urging when trialling on 6 April at Ellerslie, and resumes in the $10,000 NZB Insurance Pearl Series Maiden 1200 metres. Her dam, Queen of Lions (King of Kings), is a half-sister to Victoria Derby (Gr. 1, 2500m) and Underwood Stakes (Gr. 1, 1800m) winner Lion Tamer (Storming Home) and impressive six-time winner Let Me Roar (Rip Van Winkle). She seems capable of a good fresh-up effort.

2.32 p.m. R5 13 Moet Belle  (3 f Tavistock - Meleka Belle) - Opie Bosson; has finished third in each of three trials, most recently while holding her position on 6 April at Ellerslie, and debuts in the $10,000 NZB Insurance Pearl Series Maiden 1200 metres (eligible $8,000). She is a half-sister to dual Horse of the Year, national Group One record (14) holder, and stable-mate Melody Belle (Commands).

3.07 p.m. R6 11 Rhapsody in Blue (4 m Medaglia d'Oro - Kablues) - Joe Kamaruddin (a3); was notable finishing sixth fresh-up in the Rating 74 1200 metres on 20 March at Tauranga, and clocked a competitive last sectional (600m - 34.3) for fourth in the corresponding event on Easter Saturday (3 April) at Ellerslie, each with Kamaruddin aboard. Weight relief to 51.5kg assists and drawn barrier four, she rates a top three chance in the $11,000 Rating 74 1200 metres.

3.38 p.m. R7 6 Devoted  (3 g Contributer - Mapmaker) - Opie Bosson; finished strongly to win when trialling on 6 April at Ellerslie, and debuts in the $10,000 Maiden 1600 metres. From the first crop of Champion Australian Middle Distance Horse of the Year Contributer (High Chaparral), his dam, Mapmaker (Volksraad), won twice and placed in the Trentham Stakes (Gr. 3, 2100m). He requires luck from barrier 12.

4.08 p.m. R8 7 No Limits  (3 g Savabeel - Make A Wish) - Opie Bosson; signalled his readiness in a recent trial before breaking through at his sixth start in the Maiden 1200 metres on 8 April at Wanganui, and steps in grade for the $10,000 Rating 65 1400 metres. A brother to stable-mate I Wish I Win, recent Sires' Produce Stakes (Gr. 1, 1400m) runner-up up to stable-mate On the Bubbles (Brazen Beau), he is ideally drawn (2) to race well again.
