Te Akau Avondale Preview
22 June, 2016
Te Akau New Zealand has four horses entered for the eight race programme on Wednesday 22 June at Avondale.
As on Tuesday 21 June the conditions were: overcast and Slow8 rail out 6 metres. 10mls forecast race day.
12.10 p.m. R1 13 Grazia (3 f Savabeel - Trocair) - Leith Innes; produced another game performance for second in the Maiden 1600 metres at Tauherenikau, and steps up in distance for the first time in the Maiden 2100 metres. A sister to Brisbane Cup (Gr. 2, 2400m) winner Tullamore, and classy mare and stable-mate Shillelagh, she boasts the right credentials and form to be competitive again.
1.20 p.m. R3 10 Cabaret (3 f Showcasing - Something Majic) - Cameron Lammas; trialled well for second at Cambridge, and resumes with a tongue tie on in the Maiden Fillies and Mares 1200 metres. Her dam, Something Majic (Mohamed Abdu), was extremely proficient in heavy going, so forecast rain may not be a deterrent.
3.04 p.m. R6 1 Spritz (3 f Thorn Park - Spray) - Matt Cameron; staged a massive run when bounding home for third in the Maiden 1400 metres at Hastings, before dashing up for second in the $12,000 NZB Pearl Series Maiden Fillies & Mares 1600 metres on Slow7 at Tauherenikau. Drawn barrier four in the corresponding event and eligible for the $11,500 bonus, she continues to thrive, deserves reward, and looks ideally placed in this field.
4.04 p.m. R8 15 Gardenier (3 f Rip Van Winkle - Miss Montjeu) - Matt Cameron; finished seventh when resuming here on Dead6 in the Maiden 1400 metres, and steps to a mile. Much will depend on her ability to handle the going, late in the day, if the forecast rain does takes effect. She has trialled once on heavy going, finishing second.
