Te Akau Avondale Preview
24 January, 2017
Te Akau New Zealand has two horses racing on Wednesday 25 January at Avondale.
As on Tuesday 24 January the conditions were: fine and Dead4, rail true. No rain forecast.
4.42 p.m. R7 4 Wide Awake (3 g Savabeel - Kay's Awake) - Opie Bosson; resumes off 105 days in the Maiden 3YO 1400 metres, following an eye-catching trial over 935 metres on 10 January at Cambridge. From last, he remained on the bridle when striding between runners for third. He clocked the fastest last 600m (34.9) when finishing third to Crookshanks (Rip Van Winkle) on debut in September at Te Rapa, spelled after nothing went right second up, and despite a wide draw he appears a strong each way chance among some tidy prospects.
5.17 p.m. R8 4 Zavistic (3 g Zacinto - Miss Avalon) - Opie Bosson; did a good job to finish third, without favours, when resuming in the Maiden 3YO 1200 metres on 1 January at Hastings, and contests the Maiden 1200 metres. Somewhat remarkably he has finished third in each of his five starts, consistency that will be rewarded. He again shapes as a top three chance, given a smooth trip from barrier nine, in a field containing some promising horses.
