Te Akau Avondale Preview
29 November, 2018
Te Akau New Zealand has four horses racing on Thursday 29 November at Avondale.
As on Wednesday 28 November the conditions were: fine and Dead4, rail true. No rain forecast.
1.58 p.m. R3 7 Prise De Fer (3 g Savabeel - Foiled) - Opie Bosson; led up when finishing third at the trials on 1 November at Te Aroha, and debuts in the $10,000 Maiden 1200 metres. Ideally drawn (4), his dam left a host of winners over sprint trips, including a very good stakes winner of eight races in Belong to Many (Belong to Me).
2.33 p.m. R4 14 Kylie Bax (3 f Pentire - Platinum Blond) - Matt Cameron; has been solid through the trials stage, including a second here in April as a two-year-old and more recently second at Cambridge. She debuts from barrier one in the $10,000 Maiden 1200 metres. From the family of Captain Cook Stakes (Gr. 1, 1600m) winner Penny Gem (Pentire), her dam has also left a lot of winners. The trial form suggests a bold first up performance, with the pedigree to go further.
2.33 p.m. R4 15 Shezathinka (3 f So You Think - Headsup) - Samantha Collett; was a stylish trial winner on 8 November at Cambridge, and debuts in the $10,000 Maiden 1200 metres where she shapes to prove competitive. Her dam, Headsup (Thorn Park), acted on slow ground when winning impressively over 1400m/1600m, and So You Think (High Chaparral) retired to stud as the highest rated son of his sire after winning 14 races (10 Group One) and $8.8 million in prize money.
3.08 p.m. R5 6 Pinot Grey (3 f Burgundy - Streaming) - Opie Bosson; closed well from fifth to finish second when resuming in a quickly run Rating 65 1200 metres on 13 November at Te Aroha. She was an impressive five length debut winner last November and spelled after finishing fifth to stable-mate and Champion Two-Year-Old Avantage (Fastnet Rock) in the $1m Karaka Million (Listed, 1200m). In a solid field for the $10,000 Rating 65 1200 metres she rates a good each way chance.
