Te Akau Avondale Trials' Report

Te Akau trialled horses on Tuesday 5 April at Avondale.  The footing was rated Dead4, rail out 14 metres.

Heat 2 Open 1000 metres (1 ¼ lengths, 1 ½ lengths 59.3)


Vinevale (3 f Flying Spur - Eden Valley) - Mark Hills; found cover in fifth and without urging worked home near the rail for fourth, in an ideal trial.

Interstellar (3 f Shamoline Warrior - Amathea) - Matt Cameron; began smartly to position third, held together she just peaked on her run to finish fifth.

Heat 3 Open 1000 metres (3 ½ lengths, 2 ¼ lengths 58.4)


Our Drahma Queen (4 m Darci Brahma - Queen Cha Cha) - Hanafi Noorman; settled distant third on genuine pace and worked home off the rail to finish in a photo for fourth with the apprentice aboard.

Heat 6 2YO 800 metres (1 length, 1 length 47.2)


2 g Darci Brahma - Molly Coco - Matt Cameron; was eased for cover off the outside gate and presented widest in the straight displayed a good galloping action into fifth.

Heat 7 2YO 800 metres (½ a length, 3 ½ lengths 46.7)


2 g Darci Brahma - Spin ‘N Grin - Matt Cameron; raced greenly back on the inner, made good ground and worked through the line strongly between horses in a photo for third.

Heat 8 2YO 800 metres (½ a head, 5 ½ lengths 47.2)


Wide Awake (2 g Savabeel - Kay's Awake) - Hanafi Noorman; dropped his head and missed the start, settling last, but showed a good action making ground solidly into fourth.

Heat 11 2YO 800 metres (2 lengths, 1 ¼ lengths)


2 g Iffraaj - Double Elle - Hanafi Noorman; began smartly, caught three wide without cover in fifth but stuck to his task with a solid gallop for fourth.

Heat 12 2YO 800 metres (head, 2 ¾ lengths 46.7)


2 g Darci Brahma - Obsession - Michael McNab; began well to park outside the leader, took over early in the straight, changed stride when challenged inside the 100m and showed promising attributes in finishing second.

2 c Savabeel - Around the Clock - Michael McNab; assumed a comfortable lead, changed leg to quicken when challenged and with more to offer recorded a smart win.

2 g Charge Forward - Imposed - Matt Cameron; got back in running and found it difficult to make ground over the sprint trip.

Affinee (3 f Exceed and Excel - Household) - Michael McNab; began smartly to lead, quickening when asked in the straight to record a good win.

2 g Red Giant - Celtic Class - Michael McNab; was caught wide in fifth and requires more ground, but stayed on well for fourth.

2 c Showcasing - Vannista Belle - Michael McNab; was first out, travelled well in front and stuck to his task gamely in a home straight duel to finish second.

Heat 21 2YO 1000 metres (3 lengths, ½ a head 1:00.5)


2 g Pins - Santangelo - Matt Cameron; had cover one off in fifth before advancing wide inside the 600m and kept up a solid gallop for third.

Primrose (2 f Saperavi - Primo Quest) - Matt Cameron; settled off the pace in fifth, improved inside the 600m, was presented widest in the straight and unwound a big finish to win well.

2 g Alamosa - La Confidente - Michael McNab; began smartly to co-lead on the inner and fought hard in a competitive finish to hold third.

Heat 23 Maiden 1000 metres (6 lengths, 1 ¼ lengths 59.2)


Grandeur (3 g O'Reilly - Grand Echezeaux) - Matt Cameron; was let find his feet in fifth, urged to pick up inside the 600m and into the clear on straightening put in a strong finish for second.

Heat 24 Maiden 1000 metres (1 length, 2 ½ lengths 1:00.4)


Its Our Showtime (3 f Showcasing - Be Inspired) - Michael McNab; was given an economical trip in fourth on the inner, angled across heels to the outside turning in and sprinted up for a smart win.

Heat 25 Maiden 1000 metres (head, 6 lengths 1:00.2)


Maleficent (3 f Rip Van Winkle - Fairy Tipsy) - Michael McNab; got back on the inner and although unable to make up leeway over the sprint trip she worked on nicely through the line.

Heat 26 Maiden 1000 metres (2 ½ lengths, ½ a length 1:00.4)


Niamh Elizabeth (3 f Per Incanto - Trove) - Jasmine Fawcett; began smartly to lead and without much urging maintained a determined finish for second.

3 g Sakhee's Secret - Spin ‘N Grin - Hanafi Noorman; secured a good position just off the pace and advanced in the straight with a strong gallop to cross the line fifth.

Heat 27 Maiden 1000 metres (3 ½ lengths, 1 ¼ lengths 1:00.5)


Spritz (3 f Thorn Park - Spray) - Jasmine Fawcett; received a lovely run in the trail and worked through near the rail with a strong finish for third.

Ebony Star (3 f Bachelor Duke - Keepa Cruisin) - Matt Cameron; was sent forward to race outside the leader and fought hard for fifth.

Heat 28 Maiden 1000 metres (short neck, 2 ¼ lengths 1:00.4)


Fastnet Fire (3 f Fastnet Rock - Dragon's Tail) - Michael McNab; was given a perfect trip in fourth, presented on straightening and although looking for more ground she stayed on solidly for third.

Heat 29 Maiden 1200 metres (neck, 1 ½ lengths 1:13)


Royal Success (3 g Savabeel - Royal Show) - Matt Cameron; was put in the trial from the outset to situate second and fought valiantly when tackled in the straight to hold his position.

Coincidence (3 g Savabeel - Read My Lips) - Matt Cameron; was put into an ideal position fourth, but unable to come on in the run home and finished seventh.
