Te Akau Avondale Trials' Report

Te Akau trialled horses on Tuesday September 23 at Avondale.

The footing was rated Heavy10 and the rail out 14 metres.

Heat 1 Open 1200 metres (¾ lengths, ½ a length 1:18.2)
Tiara (4 m O'Reilly - Royal Lady) - Matt Cameron; settled nicely on the lead at a comfortable tempo and without being knocked around in the straight she finished second.

Heat 19 Maiden 3YO 1000 metres (½ head, ½ head 1:04.5)
3 g Saperavi - Paerangi - Matt Cameron; had his gate slow to open, missing the start by five lengths and he found the line okay in centre track without being knocked around.

Heat 20 Maiden 3YO 1000 metres (½ head, 2 ½ lengths 1:04.1)
3 f Saperavi - Patient - Matt Cameron; showed good gate speed to position in second and uncomfortable on the sticky ground she was held together through the straight to finish fourth.

Heat 21 Maiden 3YO 1000 metres (neck, 3 ½ lengths 1:04.5)
3 g Minstrel Court - Aventura - Matt Cameron; positioned handily one off the rail and although not his going he fought solidly for third.

Heat 24 Maiden 1200 metres (2 lengths, ½ head 1:18.7)
Imperium (3 g Encosta De Lago - Ethereal) - Matt Cameron; settled back in the running and with one reminder he ran on without being knocked around to finish fourth.

Cathedral Cove (3 g Zabeel - Thistle Cove) - Craig Grylls; was there for educational purposes, being allowed to find his feet, and he was held together on the sticky going.
