Te Akau Awapuni Friday Preview

Te Akau Racing has two horses entered on Friday 23 August at Awapuni.

2:37 p.m. R4 4 Luxuriant (7 m Iffraaj – Opulent) – Wiremu Pinn; she rose in grade to win the Rating 75 1200 metres on 5 July, clocking the fastest last 600m (33.1) on the day, but was without same finishing burst in the Rating 75 1400 metres on 25 July, both here on poly track. Finishing well back that day, it was the first occasion she travelled to the races without her constant companion Poppy the Pony (who lives in her box with her every night). Poppy was unwell and unable to travel but she's bounced back and is off for a day out today.  With her trusted best gal pal by her side, she is well capable of bouncing back! She has won three of her last five starts, including two here, and is a top three chance in the $17,000 Rating 75 1200 metres. Fixed odds: $3.10 & $1.20.

4:20 p.m. R7 1 Malmaison (4 g Darci Brahma – Altai Rose) – Wiremu Pinn; he capped top form with strong finish to comfortably win the Maiden 970 metres on 26 June at Cambridge (poly track), has been given time (58 days), and contests the $17,000 Rating 65 1200 metres. He has the ability to handle today's rise in grade, and he too is capable of a first three finish. Fixed odds: $3.60 & $1.50.
