Te Akau Awapuni Saturday Preview

Te Akau New Zealand has four horses racing on Saturday 9 January at Awapuni.

Weather: cloudy, track: Dead5, rail: out 4 metres (outside bend). 5mls rain forecast Friday.

1.20 p.m. R2 3 Challa (4 g Dissident - Are There Any) - Joe Kamaruddin (a4); worked hard on speed here in the $27,500 Rating 74 1200 metres on 19 December, and contests the corresponding event. Kamaruddin was aboard for two consecutive front-running victories prior, claims to 56.5kg, and he rates a top three chance if improved for the last outing. Fixed odds: $5.50 & $1.95.

1.55 p.m. R3 1 Supreme Khan  (3 g Mongolian Khan - Angelica Hall) - Danielle Johnson; registered two wins and a second from three starts during a spring campaign from the Te Akau base at Riccarton, and looked good finishing on terms with multiple stakes winning stable-mate Need I Say More (No Nay Never) in an exhibition gallop on 1 January at Ellerslie. Drawn wide (10) hinders in the $25,000 3YO 1400 metres, but the right rider to assist in providing each-way prospects. Fixed odds: $3.10 & $1.35.

3.05 p.m. R5 10 Vincere  (4 m Pins - Lasting Luck) - Danielle Johnson; came clear for deserved victory in the Maiden 1400 metres on 3 December at New Plymouth, with Johnson aboard, and good finishing second to stable-mate Campionessa (Contributer) in the Rating 65 1400 metres on 23 December at Matamata. She rates a top three chance, drawn barrier three in the $22,500 Rating 65 1400 metres. Fixed odds: $5.00 & $2.00.

3.05 p.m. R5 11 Lucky Shark  (4 g Darci Brahma - Shamardal Luck) - Johnathan Parkes; finished midfield in the same race as Vincere (above) on 23 December at Matamata. Ideally drawn (1) in the $22,500 Rating 65 1400 metres, improvement is sought. Fixed odds: $19.00 & $5.00.
