Te Akau Awapuni Sunday Preview
Date: 22 Apr 2023
Te Akau Racing has six horses entered on Sunday 23 April at Awapuni.
Weather: overcast, track: Soft6, rail: out 4 metres (outside bend). 25mls rain forecast Saturday.
12:30 p.m. R1 1 Kabugee (3 g Satono Aladdin - Kabuki) - Johnathan Parkes; he was without room in the straight, remaining untouched behind runners in a trial on 11 April at Avondale, and resumes in the $14,000 3YO 1200 metres. The highest rated in this field, he has been competitive at stakes' level, acts well fresh, and has shown to handle give in the ground. Fixed odds: $16.00 & $4.80.
12:30 p.m. R1 5 Dignitosa (3 f Xtravagant - Infra Dig) - Michael McNab; she was in no danger throughout when scoring fresh-up on Soft6 in the Maiden 1200 metres on 23 February at Wanganui, but was not the same in a much stronger Rating 65 1200 metres on 11 March at Pukekohe. Given time (43 days), she receives an opportunity to bounce back to winning form in the $14,000 3YO 1200 metres.
1:40 p.m. R3 5 Devoted (5 g Contributer - Mapmaker) - Michael McNab; he finished sixth in the $14,000 Rating 60 2100 metres on 12 April at Ruakaka, and contests the corresponding event. He posted a good second prior, is building fitness ahead of a jumps' campaign, and should race well with a dose of luck from his wide draw (11).
2:15 p.m. R4 10 Polly Plum (4 m Xtravagant - Herstory) - Craig Grylls; she went forward to lead, keeping up nice gallop for second in a trial on 21 March at Taupo, and resumes in the $14,000 Rating 75 1200 metres. She is a solid performer, but out of her rightful grade.
4:00 p.m. R7 7 Millefiori (4 m Iffraaj - Miss Bluebell) - Joe Kamaruddin (a); she roared home in the fastest last 600m (33.9) on the day to score under light weight (52kg) in the Open 1400 metres on 25 March at Tauranga, but seemed without the same punch in the Open 1400 metres last Saturday at Te Rapa. She handles an off track and has the chance here to bounce back in the $65,000 Manawatu ITM Anzac Mile (Listed, 1600m) - one of two mares in the event for the stable. Fixed odds: $7.50 & $2.50.
4:00 p.m. R7 11 Synchronize (4 m Savabeel - Splits) - Wiremu Pinn; she got back from a tricky gate (11) and finished strongly down outside for seventh in the Flying Handicap (Listed, 1400m) here on 1 April. Stepping up in the $65,000 Manawatu ITM Anzac Mile (Listed, 1600m), she is a stakes' winner from earlier this year, and is capable of a bold showing if appreciative of the prevailing track conditions. Fixed odds: $5.50 & $2.10.
