Te Akau Awapuni Thursday Preview
Date: 27 Jul 2023
Te Akau Racing has eight horses entered on Thursday 27 July at Awapuni.
Weather: fine, track: poly-track, rail: true.
1:02 p.m. R1 5 Our Milly Bee (3 f Merchant Navy - Rina Bettina) - Michael McNab; she came from a mile back for third in the Maiden 3YO 1300 metres on 28 June recording the fastest last 600m (33.7) and was the fastest again (34.2) for fourth in the Maiden 3YO 1300 metres on 13 July, both at Cambridge (poly-track). Going well, she rates a top three chance in the $14,000 Maiden 1400 metres.
1:37 p.m. R2 4 Redsheis (3 f Burgundy - Show No Emotion) - Michael McNab; she produced a powerful run to easily win the Maiden 1200 metres on 16 June and ran on well from a wide draw (10) in the Rating 65 1200 metres on 7 July, both here on the poly-track. Stepping up in distance appeals in the $14,000 NZB Insurance Rating 65 Fillies & Mares 1400 metres (eligible $13,000 bonus) and she looks a definite top three prospect from the handy barrier three.
2:12 p.m. R3 2 Pokuru Show (3 g Vadamos - Mystery Show) - Jonathan Riddell; he has been racing well on the poly-track with a second and three fourths from his last four starts, most recently finishing fourth after working hard in the Maiden 1000 metres here on 7 July. He shapes to race well again from barrier three in the $14,000 Maiden 1200 metres - one of two in the event for the stable.
2:12 p.m. R3 6 French Rose (3 f Burgundy - Paraiba) - Michael McNab; she came from sixth in the fastest last 600m (33.2) to claim third in the Maiden 1000 metres here on 7 July, and also contests the $14,000 Maiden 1200 metres. She is racing solidly and rates a top three chance.
2:45 p.m. R4 5 Angel Wings (3 f Heroic Valour - Gowana) - Michael McNab; she has been given time (29 days) since racing wide in the Pearl Series Rating 65 1300 metres on 28 June at Cambridge (poly-track), and contests the $14,000 Rating 65 1200 metres. A poly-track winner two starts ago over 1300 metres at Cambridge, she is well positioned for a top three finish from the advantageous gate (3).
3:19 p.m. R5 4 Treaty of Paris (3 g Tavistock - Echezeaux) - Michael McNab; he capped solid form when winning the Maiden 2000 metres on 28 June at Cambridge (poly-track) by nearly eight lengths, and was collared mid-straight after working to lead in the $14,000 Rating 65 2140 metres here on 7 July. He receives the opportunity to prove more competitive in this corresponding event.
3:53 p.m. R6 3 Primo Vino (3 g Savabeel - Vinorules) - Jonathan Riddell; he finished well for a close third in the Maiden 2000 metres on 14 June at Cambridge (poly-track), but was under pressure at the 600m in the Maiden 2140 metres here on 7 July. He now comes back in trip, and receives the opportunity to improve in the $14,000 Maiden 1700 metres - the first of a stable duo contesting this race.
3:53 p.m. R6 6 Star In The Sky (3 f Savabeel - Pikari Star) - Michael McNab; she did well for third off a wide journey in the Maiden 1700 metres on 16 June and then fought well for fourth following economical trip in the Maiden 2140 metres on 7 July, both here on the poly-track. From barrier one, she can certainly be in the thick of the finish in the $14,000 Maiden 1700 metres.
