Te Akau - Back To Back Black Type Weekend

Date: 10 Jan 2025

A Black Type Saturday & Sunday Session Is Calling!

We are sharp and sweet this week as we share the news of our black type runners lining up across the weekend. In the past ten days, the Te Akau team has been everywhere—busy north, south, east, and west as we hit the peak racing season, and yearling sale season too!

The Magic Millions Sale has been a fantastic success for Te Akau, with 17 high-quality lots (so far!) secured across all price points. Shares are available in these horses now, and we could not be more excited about their prospects—outstanding pedigrees and athletes without exception. We cannot wait to start educating these new yearlings and developing their potential as we continue the Te Akau tradition of identifying and buying exceptional racehorses of the future. Explore the ownership opportunities available here: www.teakauracing.com/yearlings-shares — there has never been a better time to get involved!

Speaking of exceptional racehorses, we are immensely proud to celebrate the induction of Imperatriz into the New Zealand Racing Hall of Fame. Being purchased from the very same Magic Millions Sale where the team is now, our incredible mare has earned her place among the greats. Writing herself into history, her achievements serve as a testament to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved in her journey!

The past week saw the winning continue—last Friday it was a treble, with Puketiro and Top Shelf scoring at Tauranga while Scottie's Legacy showed real grit to record her second win from our Cranbourne stable. On Saturday, My Lips Are Sealed secured valuable black type with an emphatic victory in the Group 3 Rydges Wellington Airport Phar Lap Trophy at Trentham—Balance of Power was also in the winner's circle at Te Aroha.

This weekend, it is 'Black Type Back to Back,' starting on Saturday, again at Trentham. Promising Bivouac colt Carsolio (who was also bought from last January's Magic Millions Sale) lines up in the Listed Star Group Wellesley Stakes. We’re also looking forward to seeing our grand mare Campionessa contest the Group 3 Life Direct Trentham Stakes. In the headline event, the Group 1 Harcourts Thorndon Mile, Qali Al Farrasha will fly the Te Akau flag.

Our attention also travels down the line to 'the Coast' as two stable runners compete at the famous Kumara Nuggets race day. Millefiori and Elegant Lady are set to party alongside some of our fellow owners who are in attendance (at a stag 'do,' we hear)!

Then it's a Sunday session at Ellerslie, as Class and Hakkinen do battle in the Listed Gingernuts Salver. This race has special significance for us all at Te Akau as it honours our legend, New Zealand Derby winner Gingernuts (aka Jerry).

Meanwhile, the countdown to the Karaka Millions twilight meeting is well and truly on. Karaka yearling inspections continue next week, with the sale starting the very next day (26 January). It's really all go around here!

As always, thank you for your continued support of Te Akau Racing. Here’s to another week of exciting racing and success on the track! Best of luck to all our owners this weekend! GO THE TANGERINE!
