Te Akau Cambridge Trials' Report

Te Akau trialled horses at Cambridge on Thursday 8 September on a bitterly cold day with a Heavy10 track -

Heat 1 Open Catchweight 1200m (length, head, 1.17.66)

Echezeaux (5m Encosta De Lago - Grand Echezeaux) - Michael McNab; settled in the back half of the field and ran home under her own stream down in the worst part of the track.

Heat 3 Open Catchweight 1200m (1¾ lengths, head, 1.18.20)

Amperage (4g Zabeel - Miss Zapper) - Jasmine Fawcett; settled handy to the speed away from the rail and found the line strongly to finish fourth in a line with the placegetters.

Heat 4 Open Catchweight 935m (2½ lengths, length, 58.20)

Splurge (4g Savabeel - Splashing Out) - Michael McNab; Settled close to the speed from an inside draw. He travelled keenly through the middle stages and worked to line under a nice hold.

Heat 5 Open Catchweight 935m (length, neck, 1.00.62)

Vive La Difference (5m Choisir - L'Artiste) - Matthew Cameron; settled on the inside of the leaders early before drifting to sit two lengths off them. She worked through the line well over the sprint trip.

Heat 6 Open Catchweight 935m (½ length, length, 1.00.23)

Rocksun (4g Fastnet Rock - Beyond The Sunset) - Jasmine Fawcett; drifted to near the rear of the field, cut the corner turning for home and made up plenty of ground in the straight to finish third.

Heat 8 2YO Catchweight 630 (1¾ lengths, head, 39.67)

2f Burgundy - Eclectic Heights - Jasmine Fawcett; quickly found the lead from the gates, and ran away from her rivals in the straight to score an impressive victory. The first trials' winner for her sire Burgundy who of course was purchased by David Ellis and trained by Te Akau.

Heat 13 Maiden 3YO Catchweight 800m (neck, 3¼ lengths, 50.89)

Kiusan (3f Choisir - Mystic Flight) - Cameron Lammas; settled in the back half of the field and was angled towards the outside rail, working to the line in ground that was beyond her.

Heat 14 Maiden 4YO & Up Catchweight 800m (1¾ lengths, ½ length, 50.85)

Maleficent (4m Rip Van Winkle - Fairy Tipsy) - Jasmine Fawcett; jumped well and found a handy position; holding her spot in the straight under minimal urging to finish fourth.

Heat 21 Maiden 3YO Catchweight 800m (head, ¾ length, 1.01.45)

3c Savabeel - Pins On Ice - Cameron Lammas; pulled his way up to the outside of the leaders and worked to the line strongly to finish two lengths from the winner.

Heat 22 Maiden 3YO Catchweight 800m (1½ lengths, 3½ lengths, 1.01.45)

Madam Monica (3f Mastercraftsman - Lynisky) - Michael McNab; speared through to co-lead and kept up a strong gallop to the line to finish in behind the place getters, under no pressure.

Heat 23 Maiden 3YO Catchweight 800m (4½ lengths, 3½ lengths, 1.01.02)  

Stolen Love (3f Savabeel - Steal) - Michael McNab; relaxed well at the tail of the field, coming to the 500 metres was angled to the outside in search of better ground and worked to line strongly to finish third.
